prevent app updates?

Does anyone know if there's any way to prevent an app from applying an update that has already been downloaded? I just downloaded an update in itunes and then went to the developer's page to see what it included, and it's a major update with a caveat that certain things will get broken if it's applied. Those things happen to matter to me, so I'm not sure how to deal with this, other than not letting the ipad sync till a version with a fix is released. Anyone know any other way?

What might work is to delete the app from iTunes on your computer, set iTunes not to sync automatically, connect your iPad to your computer and see if Transfer Purchases from iPad will transfer the old to your computer. Also, if you have a computer backup that has the old app you should be able t to delete the new one and replace it with the old one.
