I slid my ipad air screen to the right. I then had a blank white screen with only wifi symbol, time and percent of charge. Only thing that would work was getting SIRI activated. That went away after a while and screen went black. I tried to turn air on or off by pressing the power button to no avail. Want to add the unit was about 70 percent charged during all this.

Any ideas to fix this?

Is it backed up. If not start with that as a precaution.

Then try a hard reboot by holding the power and home buttons together. After about five seconds it should boot up to the Apple logo.

If that doesn't work you might have something in the system corrupted and need to do a restore. (Thus part of why making sure you have a backup before you start anything)
