Earth. I think.
Im running a first generation iPad on iOS 5.1, with the latest version of iBooks. I'm opening PDFs in Safari, and then opening them in iBooks. I have to try opening them at least twice, often three times to get them to open.

Any ideas?

(NB. if this isn't the right sub forum, would the moderator please correct that?)

How do I correct the problem?

You need to allot more time to load the PDF. How large is this PDF? Is it image intensive? That will make a difference. The other way is to upgrade.

The PDFs are text only and three to ten pages each. I'm not sure that ive explained the problem very well. The PDFs won't open once I switch to iBooks. On the second attempt, the PDF sometimes appears in iBooks and then disappears seconds later. on the third attempt, it usually opens the PDF.

Ah, if that was the problem then you may need to reinstall iBooks. Keep in mind that PDFs need time to load on the iPad so it may appear as blank pages when you first load them. Also if you have PDFs that aren't encoded well, they won't load properly in iBooks. I normally use quickoffice in order to load PDFs since it typically loads better.

Same problem with new iPad

@Anglican-Mac

Did you resolve your problem? (if so, how?) I am having the exact same frustration on my new iPad. I have some text-only PDF's that are only 1 or 2 pages and when I try to open them in iBooks first they don't do anything, second attempt the image appears in iBooks and quickly disappears, third attempt it opens without further problems. Sometimes it takes less than three tries and some times it takes more than three tries...this hasn't always been the case in the past as I had a first generation iPad (with older iOS and iBooks and they would load first time every time) but after upgrading it and with my new iPad I have the latest iOS and iBooks it happens 99% (if not 100%) of the time.
