Erase imported pictures on iPad

I have spend hour in trying to erase pictures on my iPad, which now is full of photos.

Very annoying. And no success.

Searching on different support forums do not give any clue.

One common advice is to erase the photos on my computer, and then sync.

Apart from being a awkward procedure (why make it impossible to erase pictures on the iPad directly?), the photos are not synced, they are imported from the cameras card directly into the iPad. No computer involved.

Another advice is to reset the iPac completely. Not an alternative, if I can avoid it.

But maybe I cant't? Maybe that is Apples way of thinking different? Come on...

How complicated can it be? Do I really have to reset the device, thus erasing everything, just to get rid of the imported pictures?

Aren't these photos in the camera roll on the iPad?

Photos that were taken with the iPad or any photos in the camera roll, etc can be deleted directly on the iPad. If you are viewing the photo in full screen - tap the trash can icon in the upper right corner. While in thumbnail view- tap the arrow icon in the upper right corner - tap on the photos that you want to delete - and then tap - Delete - in the upper left.

Thank you for a quick answer.

No, the photos are not in the camera roll, just in a specific album.

If i try to delete from the album - in thumbnail or in full view - it says "The photo will be deleted from this album, but will remain in the library." (translated).

And so it is. If I delete pictures (almost all of a few houndred pics) and then go back from "Album" to "Pictures", all pictures are still there.

If I try the same procedure here, there is no option for deleting.

In full screen the arrow icon just gives me options to mail, use for a contact, background etc. No deleting.

In thumbnail view, I can click the arrow icon and mark pictures, but the Erase button is greyed out.

Meantime, I have also downloaded a third-party program for my Mac, which looked promising, with an ability to erase in a normal file view, connected to the iPad. But erasing pictures from the computer seems to have no effect on the iPad.

(I have also tried to handle the pictures in Apples Image Capture. But it only shows pictures in the camera roll, not the album.)

I'm not sure what to do then. I was always under the impression that photos that are imported to the iPad from the CCK - whether from the camera itself or from a card - could be deleted directly on the device. If you delete the photos from these "specific albums", but they remain on the device - where then are they stored?

This is one of the many discussions that I have read about deleting photos that were imported using the CCK.

Other answers I've got is to turn off the Photo stream (it has never been on) and uncheck sync in iTunes on my Mac (it has always been unchecked, and no photos are synced, only imported from CCK).

I guess my only alternative is to blow the entire iPad clean. Not a very elegant solution on a problem that never should have occurred. After all I haven't done anything unusual - no jailbreak, no odd third-party solution, no tampering....

Thanks anyway, Demo.

Seems like I've found a solution after all...

However that means using a third-party solution that sneakes around Apples restrictions on the ability of file handling on the iPad.

I have just installed the software "ImTOO" on my Mac, which shows the files on the iPad in a more normal file view. And there is "Pictures" separated from "Camera Roll".

When I erase pictures from "Pictures" (that won't show up in "Camera Roll") in ImTOO, they actually disappear immediately from the iPad. Phew...

(It also shows file sizes etc on programs and other files associated with programs. I would not dare to use it for erasing other than the troubling pictures, however. But I do appreciate the file view.)

Hey guys, I got this problem also and after some experimenting I found a simple solution.
I got an iPad 3 and imported photos with the camera connection kit.

1. Make an empty folder on your desktop with the same name as the album on your iPad.
2. Open your itunes and plug-in your iPad.
3. Start up itunes, go to your ipad and go to tab "Photos"
4. There you can choose to sync your photos from iPhoto or you can choose a folder.
5. Choose the folder option and select your empty folder on your desktop

6. Sync it and you will see that your requested album is gone.

note: the rest of your photostream photos are still on the iPad. So you won't loose them

Hope that was helpfull.

Cheers,

Bart
