Wifi Connectivity with 3rd-gen iPad

When setting up the new iPad, I'm invited to connect to a wifi network. I try the one my computer and iPhone are connected to.

The iPad just spins... FWIW, I've recently updated my TimeCapsule and am using WPA2 personal security. The "pie" slice in the upper-left corner does light up, but the iPad never goes beyond the "Wifi" setup page. When I try to force it to move on, it asks "Do you want to continue without Wifi?"

No!

I also tried this on our corporate network. One of the SSIDs there did work - which is open without security. Our other SSID, that also uses WPA, had the same result.

Why won't my new iPad work over wifi?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

Additional things to try.

Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.

If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

I have had all 3 iPads and I got the new one on Friday, however starting today I have had a lot of trouble connecting to the Internet via Wifi. I could not connect at home nor at school where I have had no problems before, and all my friends are having not having any problems connecting to the Internet with their iPad 2's. Is there something wrong with the new iPads?

My issue was resolved by returning the new iPad to the AppleStore. The tech on hand first suggested that the new iPad was just "too new" for my older network. When I called his story as bogus, he asked what I wanted to do. I asked for a replacement. He said he could do that, but could not guarantee that would resolve the problem.

Of course, it did resolve the problem.

I can't speak to the other threads here on "slow" wifi, but for my issue - connecting to secure networks - it was resolved by receiving a replacement unit.

Hi John

I've been having this exact same problem with my iPad 3. It wont connect to my home network. I took it to the apple store today and magically it worked there....

I tried it on my brothers wifi and it also worked. But wouldn't work at home on either a Airport Extreme or my o2 Router.

After reading your post about secure networks I've configured my router to have WEP encryption and it now works..... It seems strange that a brand new iPad only connects to an old type of Wifi encryption!

I will call apple care tech support and find out more as I want it to connect to ANY WIFI!

Hope this helps anyone else needing a quick solution.
