MP4s disappear in iPad

I sync mp4 files from my iMac to my iPad. The progress bar shows the movie file synching and completes. When I go to my iPod icon on my iPad, there is no 'movies' category. I cannot find the MP4 files.

Please help

Here's a link to the videos page of the ipad description on apple's site. The icon shown on the left side of the screen in the list is the one you want. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure it's at the bottom of the screen by default (I may have moved mine there--can't remember), but it should be somewhere on one of your home screens if you haven't deleted it.

The iPad doesn't put synced movies in the iPod app, but in a standalone Movies app, as Barbara indicates. But note that not all mp3 and mp4 movie files are directly playable in the iPad Movies app: it depends on the codec used to compress them. The movies may appear to sync and take up space, but they won't appear as playable files on the iPad.

You'll need a third-party movie playing app to play such files. I use VLC:

Once you've installed it, make your way to the "Apps" tab of your iPad while it's connected via iTunes. You can add movies using the interface at the bottom of the screen. Here are some helpful instructions:

Good luck!
