Terrible Inconsistant WFI Connectivity - On My 3rd IPAD As Of Yesterday

First 2 IPADs WIFI connectivity failed daily... Yesterday, my second IPAD, couldn't pickup Safari in the Apple store at the Genius Bar, hence I was given my 3rd IPAD... With the latest one, you still have to go through many contortions to get reasonable WIFI connection sitting 10 feet away from my new apple router (yes firmware is up to date)...

Here is a typical problem that persists... Last night I was on my IPAD at 11:00 & the connection speed from Speed Test X was 8.34mbps, which is terrific for me... I wake up in the morning, start up my IPAD in the same precise location from the previous evening and I can not connect to hardly anything... The Speed Test X was 227 kbps (not mbps!!!!) I have now moved to 10 feet in front of my apple router and my speed is 1.7 mbps!!!! I have done all the changes that Apple & Princeton University have suggested to no avail... I absolutely love the potential of this product but it currently is a dead aluminum brick... Are there any other wild ideas out there to make this IPAD actually work... Apple can't send out a fix soon enough... My $250 netbook connects and works far better than this so far...

I had very similar experience. Through trial and error on my own I was able to find a solution for my home, but it does me no good once I walk out the door. I have an Airport Extreme 802.11 (not the dual band). I went into the "Airport Utility" application - "manual setup" then "wireless". In "Radio Mode" there are four choices 1) 802.11n (b/g compatible), 2) 802.11n only (2.4 GHz), 3) 802.11n (a compatible), and 4) 802.11n only (5 GHz). Only the 4th choice (5GHz only) worked - my iPad zips along now. However, my work laptop (Dell) and iTouch do not function with this setting. Does anyone have any insight into my solution - why this works? From several posts it appears others have more success with 2.4 GHz.

Per the suggestion, I change my airport extreme to 5 ghz only... The speed on my IPAD jumped dramatically to 13.8 Mbps... I was impressed! The next day the speed dropped very dramatically to 733 kbps (not Mbps) while still on 5 ghz.... I only sit a few feet from airport extreme... My average daily speeds hover between 1 to 5 ghz.... Plus random drops from wifi completely... the aluminum brick saga continues....
