In mail, when I put my messages into "edit" mode to start to delete, some messages can be deleted while others only have an 'archive' option. Is this something that can be dealt with in settings?

iMac
Mac OS X (10.6.5)
I don't see the trash can icon to delete messages. I have to select the mailbox icon and then select trash. This seems cumbersome. The manual says there should be a trash can icon.
View 9 RepliesI would like to save email messages on my ipad until I choose to delete them. However, the ipad doesnt save, or display, more than a week to 10 days of messages. I have set it to display 200 messages, which is the maximum. There is no option to download more messages. I am using a POP account.

For some reason, I am not able to delete old email messages to the trash. I get a message,"Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox trash".I have checked into my settings, but am at a total loss.
View 3 RepliesI love my iPad and my iPhones. They are so easy to use any have made my life better but my 2 year old also loves my iPad and is very good at it. However, he has found that he can re-arrange the apps and delete them. This has proven frustrating when important information is lost.It would be nice to see an option that would allow users to protect the apps by a password or slide look in the settings.

View 1 RepliesI have a GMX e-mail account; when I manage my e-mail on a computer (any computer), I always use the web-based e-mail straight from the website. I have this e-mail address configured in Mail on my iPad as an IMAP account. When I check my mail via iPad, it shows me my current inbox, but if I delete messages from iPad, it moves the message to trash, but does not reflect this on the server. So when I go to login to my account from a regular computer, any e-mail(s) that I have deleted through my iPad are still in my inbox at the GMX website. On my iPad, I have turned Push to Off and I have Fetch set to manual, whenever I launch Mail. I have tried hitting the refresh on my iPad after I move a message to Trash, and my iPad's Mail settings are set to move deleted items to the "Trash" folder on the GMX server. Sending and receiving e-mails are no problem. What am I doing wrong here? I am tired of deleting messages on my iPad (such as spam) and then having to go onto a computer and login to GMX and delete them again. Btw, same exact issue on my iPhone with exact same e-mail settings.

In my mailbox there are 7 messages dated 01/01/1970 (Before iPad I believe!) with no content and no place at side where I can pop a delete button. There is a blue button but it is not responding AND. There is no delete option available. I cannot highlight message or even just use dustbin.
View 2 RepliesAnyone know of an easy way to delete a lot of messages from your inbox easily. The edit option is too cumbersome for deleting a lot of emails - like over 150. Also anyone know how to mark email as junk? That's the reason I have so much stuff to delete. If not, Apple needs to update their mail app to allow you to mark mail as junk and to delete your entire inbox if desired.

I set up the resident Mail application to access her AOL. On a laptop, she used the AOL Webmail interface (not a separate mail program). When she opens a message and reads it on the iPad, and later checks AOL online, the message has moved from "New Mail" to "Old Mail", just as it should. But if she DELETES a message on the iPad, and later checks AOL online, the message has not been deleted. I've used AOL/IMAP on other (non-Apple) devices and systems, and it's operated fine. This is my first experience with this craziness. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere I'm overlooking, but not finding it. So, can anyone tell me, when she deletes AOL messages from the iPad Mail application, how can we set it up to delete from the server?
View 2 RepliesI use Hotmail, and for those of you who have a Hotmail account, you know that the native email application can pull messages from the Hotmail server but messages deleted on the iPad are not deleted from the Hotmail server.
The iPhone app mBox Mail solves this problem by syncing with the Hotmail server. Unfortunately, this app is not yet available in an iPad-friendly format.
I contacted the developer, Fluent Factory, to inquire about their plans for an iPad version. They confirmed that they are, in fact, working on an iPad version.
That's good news for us Hotmail users. I for one am looking forward to being able to use mBox in an iPad-friendly version on my iPad. It's almost painful using an iPhone app on the big, gorgeous, hi-def iPad display.
