Jailbreak IPad To Create Wifi Hotspot And Airplay IPhone Video To IPad Over Hotspot?

May 24, 2011

I use StreamToMe and AirVideo to watch video on my iPhone, being played from my computer at home. With Airplay, you can send that video out to an Airplay compatible device. With Airframe, my iPad can be turned into a Airplay compatible device (which works when I am at home on my Wifi network, I can play video from the iPod or Youtube app to the iPad from the iPhone).

But the trick is, I would like to be able to watch movies from StreamToMe or AirVideo while on the road to my iPad, since I have the Wifi version. So I jailbroke my iPad to use PDANet and MyWi to create a Wifi hotspot from the iPad, with the iPhone connecting to that hotspot. PDANet did not work at all, where I could not see the Airplay devices at all on the sources button of my iPhone Apps. MyWi worked only with the iPod iPhone app, because it is locally stored content. Youtube did not work because my iPhone is attempting to connect to the internet through the Wifi hotspot, which doesn't have data, is essentially a local network for my own purposes.

So, does anyone know of a way around this, to create a wifi hotspot on the iPad where the iPhone can connect to it but still use the 3G as its' internet connection and Airplay video to the iPad? By doing this essentially gives me the ability to access video content on the net without having to pay for a separate data connection if I had the 3G iPad. I take the train a lot, so this would be awesome.

WiFi IPad On IPhone's Hotspot - WiFi Or Bluetooth?

Dec 23, 2011

I just got an iPad 2 and it is the WiFi-only model. I didn't get the 3G model because I plan on using my iPhone's Hotspot feature (I already upgraded to the 4GB plan with AT&T).

Now, my question is, are there any advantages to connecting via WiFi as opposed to Bluetooth, or vice versa? Will one give me a more stable or faster connection? Which one would use less battery, or does it even matter?

No Wifi Available - Use Overdrive As Wifi Hotspot

Jun 29, 2010

I'm in Mexico and our hotel only has ethernet connection, no wifi except in public areas!! Luckily my husband decided at the last minute to bring his MacBook Pro so we have access to the internet (or I would be going insane). He also brought his Sprint Overdrive. Understandably we have turned off the international roaming so that we don't return home to a $10,000 bill. It occurred to us that we might be able to somehow use the Overdrive to bridge the ethernet connection to be able to broadcast wifi to our iPads.Does anyone know if this is a possibility? I'm fairly good with networking but either I have vacation brain or what I'm trying to do is not possible.

Can't Find A Hotspot To Use The WIFI Or 3G+WIFI ?

Jul 28, 2010

I don't know which one to get, so maybe people who actually own one can help. Here's what's going on: I have $1000 to spend or save. I will buy an iPad this Friday or Saturday. But I also have another major purchase also, in that I would also like buy a $800 camera (both the iPad and camera are for both personal use and business -- I'm an outdoor writer who takes my own pics. And possibly will be a student again.)Part of me wants the 3G for if I can't find a hotspot to use the WIFI, but I don't know if it's absolutely necessary for me to have it. To those that have one or the other, is it worth the extra money to have the 3G in case you need it (I won't subscribe except for the times where I need it). I'm afraid if I don't have it I'll regret not having it. But if I do have it, I'll waste the $15 subscription fee when I don't really need to. So if buy the WIFI only, I'll save $130.The second part to that, do I really need the 32GB, or can I get by on the 16? I have the 32GB iPhone, and I have never went over 10 GB in use, and I have TONS of apps and some movies on there. I probably won't be doing lots of movie watching, but with kids, I might on occasion. I will mostly be using it as a book reader and like a laptop -- mostly for writing word documents, and saving my pics and video to it when I'm on the road.

Being Connected Always - Using Wifi Hotspot

Specifically, when I log into a wifi hotspot all is well until the unit goes to sleep, but after it wakes up of course I have to log back on to the network. Does anyone know of an app which will keep the iPad connected without the need to log back on every time?

Using WiFi At Local Library Hotspot

Apr 13, 2010

I tried to use WiFi on my new iPad at my local library hotspot last night. I sat right under the router that was in the ceiling. The little gear next to the WiFi bars just kept spinning. The name after WiFi showed as hotspot on the settings page where my home network usually shows. I did not change any settings.I don't know enough about this and I do not want to mess up the settings for when I use my iPad at home.I never tried this hotspot with my MacBook, so I don't know if the problem is with the iPad or my libraries service.

Wifi Hotspot - Cellular Signals

May 10, 2010

Can I just clear up something in case I'm being ********.If I just buy a Wifi only iPad (not the 3G version), can I not pay TheCloud for example for a PAYG one-off time, and connect to that in an area that supports 'The Cloud'. Like in Starbucks or the airport for instance.I don't see how the 3G is beneficial apart from that fact that you can be 'always connected' via cellular signal.

Monitor WIFI Usage For Hotspot Only?

Jul 2, 2012

Is there an app to monitor wifi usage that will only monitor for a specific wifi connection? I have searched several and downloaded a couple at cost and they don't seem to be able to separate one network from another. I have a wifi hotspot with a 2gb data plan that I want to track usage on, but have no need to track wifi usage on my home network. I just want to monitor when I am connected to my hotspot.

Using Iphone4 As A Wifi Hotspot For Ipad 2

Jun 11, 2011

Just curious if anyone is using their iphone4 as a wifi hotspot for their ipad2 and how well or poorly it may be working. I'm thinking of not bothering with getting the wifi +3g model for the ipad2 and just paying for the tethering as I need it since for the most part, I'll have wifi access when using the ipad and would only turn tethering on sporadically.

Free Wifi Hotspot Use For AT&T IPad 2?

Mar 13, 2011

Does anyone know for sure whether you can access all of AT&T's free wifi hotspots (ie at Starbucks, barnes and noble, etc) WITHOUT activating a data plan? It sorta seems too good to be true, and when I spoke with a few different ppl on the phone at AT&T they seemed less than knowledgeable (though all seemed to think that you could in fact access the hotspots without paying for one of the monthly subscription plans).
