Comic Books And Network Attached Storage - Download Content Directly From My NAS
Apr 29, 2011
I'm buying an iPad 32gb WiFi next week and was hoping one of you knowledgable gentleman/ladies can tell me if what I'm buying it for can actually be done. I love comic books and have lots (about 400gb worth of cbr's and cbz's) on a NAS (Netgear Stora with a 2tb hard drive) shared over my home network. I'm planning on buying an iPad in order to read them around the house (and on the move by tthering it to a Nokia 5800, but that's a different and less important problem).
What I'd like to do is get the comics directly from my NAS without having to use my PC as a middleman. I'm pretty sure that the iPad won't be able to open the files directly from the NAS and that I'll have to download them onto the iPad in order to read them.
Can I download content directly from my NAS to my iPad? Can I 'load' the content into an app (Comic Zeal) using iTunes without having to plug the iPad into my computer? If I can do this and I manage to tether the iPad to my phone for 3g and I set my NAS to have a static IP would I be able to do this anywhere I like?(hotel, on the road etc.)
And finally (and I'm pretty sure this can't be done) is there a way I can click a comic book on the NAS and read it on the iPad without downloading it? Kind of like opening a pdf in internet explorer (sorry for the PC-centric example, this is my first forray into Apple tech). If it makes any difference, my PC is running the dreaded Windows 7 Home Premium, making life extraordinarily over-difficult for Microsoft's customers since 2009.
Anyone here waiting to see what kind of censoring approach Apple takes towards books and comic books? Are they going to pull books like Catcher in the Rye or Lolita?I haven't heard of music and movies being censored, but all their App censorship has me worriedI did a google search to see how manga publishers felt about the iPad and most of them were excited about the technology but one in particular said that they were excited but worried about censorship because Apple had recently pulled one of their Manga books from the App store for being too violent.
Nice article on comics and the iPad.http://gizmodo.com/5463681/comic-boo...le-on-the-ipadI'd buy an iPad just to read comic books. Think I'm nuts? I probably am, but see how you feel after this first look at what Panelfly, maker of a popular comic book iPhone app, is building for the iPad.Instead of simply scaling up the existing iPhone app, the folks from Panelfly put their heads together with the Sugarcube dev team and brainstormed. With all the talk of the iPad and how it could restore comic books to their former glory, they realized that they needed to revamp the app and make a version specifically for the iPad. This way they could take full advantage of the device's screen size and provide a new way of purchasing and interacting with the content.
The primary reason for buying my iPad 2 was to read comic books and I waited for version 2 just because I figured it would be a bit faster etc. I'm glad I did because it shines as a comic book reader! Along with the comics, games (Infinity Blade etc...) and everything else it has to offer, I'm having more fun with the iPad 2 than I remember having with any device.
Where can you download Comic Books? I keep hearing people talk about one of the comic book apps being the only .cbr reader (??). Does that mean you can go to a website, download a comic book and open it with that app like an eBook? I love the Marvel App but I'd love to be able to read other comics like Simspons, etc Is that even possible? Sorry for being a complete n00b on this.
I am unable to share content directly with the installed apps. The condition is similar with Facebook, Evernote and Google Plus. Please suggest me a way to solve this issue.
Download Content Via App Such As Video From A News Source - Does That Content Remain In SSD?
Apr 21, 2011
When I download content via an app such as a video from a news source, does that content remain in the SSD? If so, that would create a lot of clutter and wasted space over time. Is there a way to check this, clear it out, etc? I know about doing this on a Windows system but am at a loss on my iPad 2.
How To Print From It To Network Attached Printer On Home WiFi
Apr 22, 2012
I am trying to print documents (ie pdf) from my ipad to a printer that is attached to my network via ethernet cable. The printer is NOT an AirPrint type printer but I can print via wifi from my laptop to it without having to have my mac desktop turned on. Everything I have read about the apps in the app store all say I can print to any printer on my network "via a mac or PC". How do I print directly to the printer since the ipad and the printer are on the same network...

Printing From Directly From It To Network Printer?
Jan 23, 2011
I just bought my ipad and really have not yet turned it on. I want to be able to print from it. The people at the apple store sold me a printer. I really do not need more printers! Is there an app or some way to print from the ipad to my network printer without going through another computer on the network. There are usually no computers on and I would hate to turn one on just to print. Kind of defeats the purpose of the ipad. I looked at printcentral but I think it needs a computer. Fax print and share pro looks like it may work.
Can an ipad connect to NETWORK storage, such as wifi hard drive without using the internet browser?I no that it can use safari to view and download files using FTP from a network drive, however is there and ap (store or cydia) that allows you to mount the drive, manipulate the contents and use it as you might on a pc?
Best Network Storage Device To Use With It Except Air?
Mar 27, 2011
I am looking for a PC networked storage device for my home network so that I can access Photos and Videos on my iPad without having to physically put them on the iPad. What are my options? And I am not looking for any of the Airxxxx products.
After seeing on the reviews I?m happy with my choice to order a 64mg 3G model. Yes the wait will be tough but I?m glad I went with the increased storage and ability to use the 3G network when needed.
I'm having a bit of troubles with accessing my music files on a NAS with my iPad. I have a macbook, iMac and PC. All my music files are on a network storage drive. I import all the files to my library in iTunes.
For some odd reason I cannot access my files with my iPad.

Aug 12, 2010
WIFI it there are more than 1 accepted network, it doesnt remember the last one it was using before power off and next time you power up either goes to the alphabetically first sorted network or doesnt connect to none of them... weirdThe 720p resolution has to go! 1080p rules do what you have to Apple one USB3 port is needed!faster processor and video memory and storage
I also found a browser called mercury that will allow this too. Which is all good but how do I get that audio file into iTunes so I can listen to the file and browse the web at the same time? If I try to leave say mercury browser when listening to the audio file it shuts the audio file off once I try to leave that app.
So I signed into app store/iTunes "bought" a free app - which was strange, droid doesn't force you to log into your account to download free apps - and I also bought Garage Band. Download failed and it told me to log into my computer iTunes acct to down loan then sync. Can I NOT download apps directly to my iPad?
