As Laptop Replacement

Sep 16, 2010

First, I know this general question has been asked and discussed many times before. I've already read through several helpful threads about it, but a few questions remain. Skip down to "Questions" below if you're in a hurry. Our 4 year old original MacBook finally seems to have kicked the bucket this week. For the time being, my wife and I are sharing the Mac mini I'm using to type this, but that gets old pretty fast. Both with the lack of portability and with the one user at a time thing. So, what to do?

Will Replace Laptop / Better Than Current Laptop Models?

Aug 9, 2010

When will the iPad become better than current average laptop models? By this I mean powerful enough to run full programs and software which could completely replace my current laptop? My laptop has replaced my desktop. Now, it's just a matter of time when a tablet computer will be good enough to perform all the tasks of my laptop.

A Notebook Replacement

May 29, 2010

For the first time a few days ago I was actually able to spend a decent amount of time with a demo unit and the apps are so superior to the iPhones. Yes, it's the same OS, but I got to see how much different everything works in it. Apple REALLY took the time to customize a lot of...well everything, for the iPad. Then I find out with the camera kit you have a SD card reader AND that one of hte default aps, pages, allows me to import Office Word files that I can edit and email out. This makes it a netbook replacement for me.

Given A Replacement - Refurb

Aug 13, 2010

I noticed a deep scratch in my iPad screen. After going to the Apple Store, they replaced it with a "new" one for $299 (which was completely covered by AppleCare) Do you think this "new" iPad was a refurbished one or a completely new device?

Replacement Some Pixels

Jun 28, 2010

I got some dead pixels on my iPad, and i got a replacement iPad right away at the apple store. But when they got the replacement for me, they took the iPad out of a regular box, but not the original packaging with the plastic covering. The iPad was in a brown box with no covering, just a box that seemed to have been opened before because the sticker that was attaching the opening was cut open. I was wondering if the iPad I'm using right now is indeed a new ipad. I called because I was just curious, and of course they say yes

Router Replacement

Apr 7, 2010

After spending some time viewing the forum entries for iPad WiFi issues, it has become very very apparent that there is:

A. Software inconsistencies causing interruption of WiFi signal/settings.
B. Hardware inconsistencies with the internal antenna(s).
C. Both

I'm sure Apple is hard at work to make their customers happy.

In the meantime, I have seen a large number of faux-tech heads making suggestions like "Your router is out of date, get an Airport Extreme/Express..."

You need to understand that everyone has a different level of tech experience. There are many people out there who are at the mercy of their limited technology knowledge, and will blindly follow suggestions from users who appear to know what they're talking about.

Apple brand routers/airports are extremely high priced. Please stop suggesting that users go out and buy an over priced piece of hardware, based on your uninformed opinion of the problem.

Apple devices like iPhones, Macbooks, etc all function just fine on nearly any network hardware. Distrubution of an IP address/authentication on a network is not an advanced feature, and does not require cutting edge hardware.

For the sake of all end users, and their wallets, please stop suggesting router replacements.

Projector Wirelessly - Displaying On My Laptop Screen Since The Laptop Is Already Connected To The Projector

Apr 26, 2012

I'm a teacher that would love to use my new iPad in my classroom but if I can't project what's on the iPad wirelessly, I lose a great deal of the functionality of the apps I'm intending to use.

I have a 3rd generation iPad, a Dell laptop, and a Sanyo projector in my classroom. I've heard that an Apple TV box can accomplish this but I was wondering if there was a cheaper way. Ideally, having whatever is on my iPad displaying on my laptop screen since the laptop is already connected to the projector. I've been told there are simple solutions to accomplish that if I have an Apple laptop but that isn't an option for me.

As Replacement For Paper Magazines?

Jul 12, 2010

I am one of those folk who subscribe to a bunch of magazines and the iPad seems like it may be right up my alley.I have a nook (wife has a Kindle) and we love 'em for eBooks. I am hesitant to move to a screen like the iPad for eBooks as the eInk screens are so easy on the eyes. But for magazine articles it seems to be a marriage made in Cupertino

Non Users Battery Replacement

Mar 16, 2010

No exactly shocking news but cnet is reporting that apple will charge 100+ bucks to replace the battery and you'll need to send it in. that is why I hate non-user replaceable batteries. I'm sure some of us could live w/o an iPad for a week, but the same goes for the iPhone and MBPs. [/rant]

Verizon DSL Router Replacement

Apr 18, 2010

After trying about every suggestion I've read here on the board in terms of router settings and iPad settings, I've come to the conclusion that I'm most likely going to have to get a new router if I want the iPad to have a chance to work here at home (currently getting unable to connect to network message). I've got an Westell 327 now, which I've had ever since I got the DSL. The iPad does seem to work fine when I've taken it to our public library to use their internet connection.

Scratched As A Replacement For My Pristine

Sep 4, 2010

the saga continues. My crazy acting iPad got sent in for repair as the technician confirmed the screen had a problem..(thank goodness my iPad behaved well and didn't work properly those few minutes!) In 3 days i got an SMS that my iPad was ready so off I trip to the shop where i'm told I've been given a new one. I am handed a plastic wrapped iPad in a cellophane bag with a different serial number. I go home and it works ...but hey! All my apps locate me 50Km from where I actually live, setting up my mail is hell while I keep getting the 'user name or password are incorrect', and, oh my GOD! scatches, ok tiny ones, in several places around the screen. Passing your finger around the edges it's also wonky. It has obviously been opened and not even very cleanly. Any thoughts on what I should do? This is obviously not a new one right? Ideas please.

Replacement For The Mail Client?

Nov 3, 2010

Currently having issues with mail on my iPad. From the look of others who have posted in this forum others are too. My issues relates to attachments in particular.

Is anyone aware of a replacement for the mail client?

I am on yahoo mail. You can read your yahoo mail online on the iPad. If you choose This option you cannot edit any part of an email you are forwarding. This is similar to the blackberry. If you use the existing mail client I am experiencing my attachments not forwarding properly. The receiver gets the attachment but it is not received in a format which it recognizes. This is true even when the receiver is myself on the iPad. Just find this to be another reason that I do not enjoy utilizing this device.

Thought replacing mail with something functional might at least allow me to send mail from it.
