Accidentally Dropped And Cracked The Screen

So, here's the issue.. My iPad 2 is still under warranty.. Just... But I accidentally dropped it and cracked the screen.. Called the support line and they advised that I need to pay around $280 for a 'out of warranty fee' as accidental damage is not covered under the warranty. By paying this, I will get a refurbished one. They also advised that they do not repair screens and if I go the third party route, the warranty will be void.

My issues with this:- I do not want a 'refurbished one'. Even though my warranty is about to expire, I could go the third party option and get the screen repaired. I'm not too happy doing that as I don't trust third parties and also, what's the guarantee of the work. What happens if something else goes wrong whilst repairing and I get back a lemon. So, I am going a third option.. Home insurance which covers accidental damage.. The insurance company has asked for a repair quote to which I have advised that they do not.. They need something in writing or on the web..

My question is - is there somewhere on the apple website that it confirms in black and white that they do not repair screens? Or where can I get this confirmation..
