Wifi Problem Solved By Brightness - Plenty Bright

Jul 13, 2010

I am one of the people with wifi dropping after sleep. I have the 16g wifi only iPad and verizon fios router.I tried the fixes mentioned here, changing my router settings, to no avail. Then I saw someone mentioned something about brightness. Sure enough, when I had wifi dropped and the wifi icon gone, I went into settings and increased the brightness. The icon popped up instantly and I got wifi back. I thought well that's a quicker fix than reconnecting manually at least. Then I thought what if I turned up brightness a little permanently. I had it at minimum because that's plenty bright for me already. But incredibly, just leaving brightness up a tiny bit from minimum fixed my wifi problem. Haven't had a drop since! This may work for you may not. I think we may have different problems with iPad wifi. Some may be an incompatibility with some routers, some may be a flaw in hardware or software of the iPad itself.Message was edited by: dearlt Information:

Has The 4.2 GM 2 Solved The WiFi Error?

Nov 12, 2010

It clearly seems that the WiFi issue is the big reason for the iOS 4.2 delay. The new GM has been released only for the iPad, and it seems that Apple solved the WiFi issue.

So, if you had the issue on your iPad, has the 4.2 GM 2 solved it?

For me, it seems that it has been solved.. But I want to be sure, before voting. So I'll wait and test it for some hours.

ANY Idea When The Wifi Will Be Solved?

Sep 17, 2010

My wife and I have had our iPad since May. The iPad has, almost from the start, been TERRIBLE on wireless. After a bunch of trial and error we discovered that the only way we could get it to work with out network was to disable/enable to the wireless every time it stop responding, which means doing this every 30-40 minutes on most days.Obviously this is hands down unacceptable. Apple posted the 3.2.1 fix which was supposed to solve this, but of course it didn't. As an application architect my team and I have been doing development for the iPad recently, and we encountered a bug related to this for one of our apps where the app would time out on load and close. Turns out the network connection is slowing down so badly it can't get a simple list within the initial 20 second launch window for the apps.

Home Wifi Solved - Still Drops With Sprint Overdrive

Apr 27, 2010

My iPad has been acting crazy since the moment I opened it. The signal strength kept moving from one bar which gave me a great signal to three bars which meant no reception at all!!! Crazy.... Went out a purchased a new Netgear router (rangemax- n 150) and from the moment i installed it the reception bars keep moving up and down often, however, I now get amazing reception all over my house all the time...looks like problem solved. All I did was buy a new router. Also, went out to Borders and star bucks and getting great signal strength. I believe I just needed a new router which means Ipad seems ok. Now, for the other issue. I purchased an sprint overdrive mifi. This thing keeps dropping me out (10 times per hour)

WiFi Hanging Solved By Changing Router Security Setting

Apr 9, 2010

I have tried everything imaginable (and a few unmentionable) to solve the intermittent WiFi hanging so many of you are suffering, including the mythical Raise the Brightness voodoo trick, all to no avail. Yet, I am happy to report a positive sign of potential success. Your mileage may vary.I am using a Belkin N+ Wireless router, latest firmware, on a PC. I changed my router's security setting to 128bit WEP. I then reset then Network Settings on my iPad. Since then, I have been WiFi-Happy for approximately 5 hours. Before this change, my iPad would hang on websites and apps every 5-45 minutes; not fun.

Wifi Vs 3g Screen Brightness

May 15, 2010

I have two ipads, one wifi and one 3g. The screen on the wifi is noticeably brighter. I tried differnt brightness settings from min to max and at any given level the wifi was always sig brighter. This was true on battery and ac power. Neither has any sort of screen cover. It may or may not have anything to do with the fact that one is 3g.

Auto Brightness Enabled - Controls The Brightness With It's Light Sensor

Jun 12, 2011

I'm assuming I'm right in thinking with auto brightness enabled the iPad controls the brightness with it's light sensor. If that's the case then why when it is enabled and I move the slider this overrides the auto battery. So what are the best settings slider down and auto or slide up and auto what's best for battery.

Weak/Intermittent WiFi/turned Off Auto-Brightness

Apr 11, 2010

I just wanted to share what worked for me. I turned the Auto-Brightness setting off and immediately had a strong and steady WiFi signal. Nothing else has worked. I'm assuming the sensor must somehow interfere with WiFi reception and turning it off has made all the difference in the world. I
hope this can help some others because I can certainly understand how frustrating this is for everyone. Nothing like getting a new toy and having an expensive paperweight!

Artwork For The Cd/resolution Solved?

Had the iPad almost a month and finally got around to adding some music. I am pretty obsessive about getting the right artwork for the cd but have found that loads of covers have not sync'd with the ipad. Anyone else have this issue and managed to resolve?

Is it something to do with resolution?

PS3, 3 Notebooks Microsoft OS And Cable Modem SOLVED

Apr 16, 2010

I have like many others been puzzled and frustrated by the wifi issues with the iPad. So let me get to the point. I have tried every published method available with no real success. I went to BestBuy and purchased a Netgear wireless N router for $40. This replaced my Netgear wireless g. I have 3 laptops (windows os) and a ps3 all hook in. Long story short I have full bars and advertised speed on my iPad. I know apple might be coming out with a software update and its not fair that the iPad wasn't wifi friendly. But this solved my problem. I am down $40, but on a plus side all wireless systems in my house including my iPad have benefitted from it. Eventually N will be standard (I think..lol) so it was an investment. Ps: not to defend apple but if you don't have $40 to replace your router than you probably shouldn't have bought a iPad.

Backlight Dimming Too Bright?

Feb 19, 2011

Generally the screen is fairly bright, even on the lowest settings. However, I just went to iBooks and noticed that when the iPad brightness is at its min., within iBooks the same brightness level is ~20% and at 0% it is really dim. But when leaving iBooks, the brightness jumps back to its previous level. Is there are reason for this discrepancy in brightness? Surely Apple isn't trying to make people use iBooks by limiting the brightness of all other apps at a level, which is too high for reading in the darkness.

Bright Spot And Dust Under Screen?

Mar 29, 2011

I've just noticed a couple of problems on my v1 iPad, one being a few very noticeable particles of dust under the screen, but also more worryingly a couple of bright patches.

The iPad is still under warranty but I wondered if there was anything that could be done about this if I took it into an Apple store? Would they be able to replace the screen or send it off for repair?
