Wifi Network Setting - Values Listed In DHCP Section

May 2, 2010

First goto network settings click on your currently connected wifi network. Take the values listed in the DHCP section (ip address, subnet mask, router, dns) and insert them into the static section number by number. Turn wifi off reset ipad and test if problems with slow connection are gone. I cant guarantee it will work but it certainky is working for me. It wouldnt hurt to try. Please leave feedback on whether it works or not.

Create A Static IP When Network Uses DHCP

Sep 12, 2010

iPad/Touch connectivity was great until Charter upgraded our router to an SMCd3gn yesterday. We like what the router does for all our other Macs but the mobiles are not happy. I've read about the glories of giving them a static IP but I can't figure out how to do it when our network is DHCP. Do I use the IP address currently assigned on the DHCP screen? The other thing is that we have to use OpenDNS numbers on all the computers or the router is extremely slow, unlike the old one so it's definitely the router. Does this complicate things? If I can make the iPad static could someone tell me what goes where? Surprisingly, this is not yet on the web.

Algorithms Values Not Compatible With Wifi?

May 4, 2010

This worked on my 16 gb wifi version.

I believe this problem might be based on the current algorithm values which lie within the internal commands of the ipad. I think the problem might be that these algorithms are not currently compatible with all wifi routers)

I'd imagine apple will announce a firmware upgrade soon, but for the time being, after trying everythhing posted, this is the only thing that has worked for me.

Since my solution is all based on various algorithms with precise numeric timing as to when the wifi will auto disconnect, i recommend using a stopwatch to confirm you are doing this precise accuracy.

I am not quite sure of every algorithm configuration within the routers, but most are based on this.
With that being said, you may want to just wait a little longer for apple since this process is a bit challenging.

But if you're up for it, see below.....

As soon as your connection first drops, count to 21 before adjusting any settings.

Next, slide the brighten button to the maximum level for 55.5 seconds
The network should connect within this time. If it does not, i'll explain what to do below...

But assuming you see it connected, turn off the device completely powering it down. Next: Count to 13, and turn on and off as fast as possible . The network should now be displayed.

if the network didnt show up after counting to 21 and 55 seconds, your router algorithm values may be set to another coding requiring a bit more time. Try 34 and 89 seconds instead of 21 and 55 respectively.

But just to be sure, try the following....

repeat of the above, but prior to counting to 13, point the device directly at the router.

While holding towards the router, adjust the settings to minimum brightness, then count to 8 instead of 13. (dont know why, but this worked for a friend of mine)

Reboot the device again.

You will need to repeat this process 5 times for it to be permanently fixed. (if 5 doesnt work, try 8).

I needed 5 times, my friend needed 8 times.

I did these steps and have a full working ipad since 8am.My friend has his working for 3 days.

Setting Up Wifi For With An Existing Hard Wired Network ?

Aug 27, 2010

Got my aged mother in law an ipad so her bad eyes could read ebooks. Only way she can download new books is with a wifi connection. Trouble is, at her house My aged father in law had a hard wired dsl connection to the internet with Windows PCs. Can I install a wifi network in her house and still leave the existing hard wired network (all commputers connected via cat5) intact? I only need the wifi connection for the ipad. That said; what do I need to make this happen besides a wireless router. Ive heard the Airport Extreme gets good reviews. I only have pc experience and have a linksys router at my own house for my wifi network. So please...can the wifi ipad connection and hard wired dsl connection peacefully coexist and if so how do I go about setting it up?

I do a lot of travelling with my company, typically staying in hotels where the company will pay for Internet access in the hotel room or Internet access is free with the room rate. Wifi Connecting But Not Gettind DHCP Address With Security Turned On

Apr 5, 2010

Wifi works fine if there is no security turned on.it gets a DHCP address and I can happily surf the web.Turn on Security, the iPad talks to the Router and the Router show that it's MAC address is connected, but I can't get a DHCP address and if I do a Static it still doesn't connect. Now I am using an older Router a Linksys BEFW11S4 which only supports B but it works fine with my iBook G4 with Airport Extreme card.I have tried the Reset (Holding the Home and Power buttons for ten seconds until the Apple Icon shows up) and I still get a 169.254.x.x APIPA address.

Wi-Fi DHCP Bug Temp Fix

Apr 27, 2010

i have tried this and it does work,go into you wireless router's settings, check your manual for instructions on how to do this.look for the setting that is called "ip address reserve" or something similar. add the MAC address for your ipad to the list and assign a ip address, for example mine is "192.168.1.11". what this will do is assign the ipad the same address every time it connects, this will prevent the DHCP bug from happening. I have yet to experience this issue after doing this.

Wi-Fi DHCP Failure - OS IOS Version 3.2.2

Oct 28, 2010

My iPad's WiFi connection has just stopped working since a couple of days ago. It can connect to WiFi access point. However, it fails to correctly obtain its IP address and other related information such as mask, DNS, and others. So, it shows full bars on the top of screen, but cannot connect to Internet at all. I had used the Internet connection and hasn't changed any network related option at all. It just stopped working. I've even tried to connect to several different wireless access points, but its symptom is same. So, I do not think that it's a specific wireless router problem.I've reset its network setting; furthermore, I've done with "Restore". Even in the original factory setting, it shows me the same symptom. Is it a hardware problem?

Switch From DHCP To Static IP?

Dec 2, 2011

Our church school has a small wireless network. I try to support it. For some reason, lately it has stopped giving IP addresses to some machines. Wireless, anyhow. Wired still seems to work OK. Most of the teachers have Windows machines and I install a program called NetSetMan which lets them easily switch from DHCP to a static address I have allocated to them. More a workaround than a solution, but it gets them onto the internet. But now some of them are showing up with iPads. I can go to the settings to give them a static IP, but that means it won't work when they go home (most likely). They kind of glaze over when I try to show them the changes to make. Is there an app which would do for them what NetSetMan does for the Windows machines?
