WiFi Password Fixed By Switching To 128-bit Encryption

Apr 15, 2010

Upon waking, my iPad would often prompt me to re-enter my WiFi password, or simply say that it wasn't connected to the internet. I was using an old D-Link Router with 64-bit WEP encryption. After talking to a senior support tech, I switched the WEP to 128-bit and it's been smooth sailing ever since. (He said he recommends 40-bit or 128-bit, just not 64-bit. Mine doesn't have 40-bit.)This is still a bug, because if you're in some random hotel, you can't change the router settings. But this workaround may help until a patch is released.

Unable To Connect WiFi / Buffalo Router (WPA Encryption)?

May 6, 2010

Backstory: bought iPad four days after release, connected to new Buffalo router (using WPA encryption), and everything has been fine. In fact, I was so happy I wasn't experiencing any issues. I could use the iPad upstairs, downstairs, etc. Great signal strength. Today the WiFi sudfenly stopped. I swear it happened when I accidentally touched the screen in the corner when the iPad was trying to open a program. My iMac is running fine off WiFi too.

WEP Vs WPA2 Battery Life - WiFi Network Uses WEP Encryption

Nov 24, 2010

It appears that when our WiFi network uses WEP encryption the battery life on our iPad is half that when our network uses WPA2. Is this logical or my imagination? It's even worse on my iPod Touch 4thGen.Macbook Pro

I Have Fixed My Wifi

Jun 1, 2010

Like many others on here I had the problem of always losing wifi. All I did to fix it was put a WPA password on it and unplugged it and plugged it back in. If your router doesnt have a password set on it or your using another security other than WPA I suggest you give it a try.It never worked in my bedroom. Now after doing this I have full signal. Just a suggestion to people thinking it may not work and haven't tried this out yet.

Wifi Issues Fixed?

May 29, 2010

I remember reading about wifi issues around when the iPad was first released. I was wondering if these issues were as widespread as the reports made it sound. If so, has the issue been fixed in a patch or in the 3G version?

Fixed A Can't Connect To App Store On Wifi And 3G

Jun 11, 2010

When I couldn't connect to the App Store on my iPad but could connect on my iPod touch and MacBook, I checked the discussions on failure to connect to iTunes and they didn't help, although someone there suggested it might just be a title page problems.Just under 24 hours, I realized that the problem had occurred when I clicked on a link from an iTunes store receipt in my e-mail. So I clicked on a link to one of the suggested applications in e receipt and that opened connecting me to the App Store. Then for a moment I couldn't connect to the iTunes store. Once I could connect to the App Store and iTunes store, I turned the iPad on and off. A problem first occurred in trying to download Pages when I received a message requiring me to re- register my IPad. Whether Apple got my message and fixed it within 24 hours or I fixed it I can't tell.

FIXED - WiFi Connection Dropped

Aug 4, 2010

My iPad suffered from repeated connection drops, and I want to share the solution that resolved my problems.Change the WiFi to use a static IP address rather than a dynamically assigned IP address (DHCP).The iPad seems to have a problem renewing the DHCP address with some routers. Changing to a static IP address is a work-around that has resulted in a rock-steady WiFi connection for me.

I was at the Apple store today and was told by an Apple Genius that if you have WEP security on your network that the iPad does not like WEP and to change to WPA security. I called verizon and they walked me through the procedure and changed to WPA and I have not had a drop for hours, which is a big change.

Automatic Switching Between WiFi And 3G?

Jun 5, 2010

With both 3G and WIFi enabled, will the iPad defer to available (and open) WiFi networks?

I use my ipad at the gym and the WiFi network i connect to is variably available. I'm curious if, in order to preserve the (increasingly precious) 3G data plan, will WiFi be preferentially used when the signal is detected?

Information:
MacBook Pro 15" (late 2008)
Mac OS X (10.6)

Switching Between Wifi And 3G Network

Jun 11, 2010

So I'm sitting in my house browsing the web on my iPad, wifi signal is at full strength and then out of nowhere a pop up thing that says "connecting" shows up and dims everything else so I can't touch anything else, it only last for about a second. Then my status bar says I'm on 3G, then a second or two later it does it again, and switches back to wifi

It will happen about once every half hour or so, I'll try and get a screen shot next time. Anyone else experiencing this?

Automatic Switching Between 3G And Wifi?

Apr 11, 2012

I've tried searching with different parameters and also a different forum but didn't get a definitive answer to my question. I have read various places that the Ipad (I have Ipad 3/64GB 3G coming from Ipad 1 64GB wifi only for two years) will automatically switch from 3G to wifi when available or choosing which is stronger but in settings it says in order to restrict basically all data to wifi to turn off cell usage. So--I only turn on cell usage when I leave the house altho' I will encounter wifi all day various places. Since I have the bug where I often/usually have to reboot to get 3G to work I do that before leaving house/office so I don't have to deal with it when I need 3G. IF I knew it automatically switch I'd just leave cell usage on all the time.

Anyone Switching From Wifi + 3G To Wifi-only This Time?

Mar 12, 2012

My current iPad is wifi-only and I am getting an wifi-only again for the New iPad. I was seriously thinking about getting the network version iPad when the Original iPad was first launched, but I am glad that I went with the wifi-only version because I really had no regrets based on my iPad usage. Also, my iPad looks better without the ugly black strip.
