While using FaceTime, my sister-in-law's ipad 2 will freeze after 5-10 seconds. We have tested it in other locations (our house, Starbucks, etc) and it works fine. Her ISP (RCN) indicated her Internet service connection is 25mps. I've tried everything I can think of but can't resolve the issue. I am beginning to wonder if it is her combination cable modem/router. She has a Linksys Wireless-G Gateway model # wcg200 ver.2. Is there a list of equipment known to be dysfunctional with FaceTime?
My iPad had been working fine until I synced it with iTunes today. At first I got the message that there wasn't enough space on the iPad for the 2 new TV shows I bought through iTunes on my computer, but I was able to sync it successfully after that.
Now when I touch the Video app icon, it shows me the last video played and I can watch it fine, but when I click "Done" to get back to the video menu, it freezes on the video and the screen is unresponsive.
I have tried turning the iPad off completely and rebooting, and I have shut down the app itself and turned it back on -- neither works.
I'm thinking I'll need to do a reset of the whole device as after searching this forum, I wasn't able to find any posts where someone had had this problem.
Any ideas before I "nuke" it? (BTW the TV shows I bought were kids Tv shows from the iTunes store, not personally converted videos etc. I have 2 videos on the iPad that I converted (Shrek the Halls and Alvin and the Chipmunks -- you can tell I have a child, right?) but they always worked just fine.
In some cases (I.e. the recently updated NYTimes Editor's Choice app, the Newsy app, and even videos on Apple's website), a video I tap plays for a few seconds (e.g. 3 to 7) then stops, frozen, and just sits there. My own videos in the Videos app never have this problem. Anybody have any ideas what' going on here?
Does anybody else have terrible video streaming on their I-Pad?Any video I try to stream from You Tube or any other site stops playing after about five seconds. These videos load at a snails pace if at all. I've tried clearing the cache, cookie, history.Information : I-pad iOS 4.
On video playback my videos would freeze after 25 seconds, but the audio would continue, then the video would catch up 15 seconds later and then freeze again. At first Apple thought it was the same issue that others are having with it crashing on video playback, and replaced it. But the new one does it too, I have been able to isolate the issue to only videos done in Instant Handbreak, using the H264 compression, all other formats are fine, mpeg4, tivo files converted and bought iTunes files, all are ok and work great. The H264 files work great on an Apple TV, iPhone, and touch, just not on iPad....anyone else found this issue? I have also tried to play the videos thru air video and good reader and they freeze up on those apps.
I purchased a 32gb 3G iPad about 30 days ago and I am happy with it except one major issue. Any non purchased iTunes videos I sync to my iPad freeze at about 18-19 min in. I've tried 720p, 640x480 in the Videos app and VLC and I get the same result every time. All videos play fine until the 18 minute mark and the video freezes while audio still plays. I talked to customer service and was told they can not do anything if the video was not purchased on iTunes. I then purchased a HD video on iTunes to test it out and the video plays fine. I don't understand what is causing this problem. Most of my videos come from a videogame website called giantbomb.com, they are not illegal and are converted to Mp4 so I just drag them all into ITunes. I've read the previous forums and it seems everyones issue was solved with the last update. any advice would be greatly appreciated as this was my main reason for purchasing the iPad.
So, I have a ViewSonic digital projector that I want to use to play movies from my iPad. I went to my local Apple store with iPad and projector (and VGA cable) in hand and was told by my very helpful store employee that a VGA adapter was available, excellent.
I asked to try it out and was told yes, of course, by said helpful employee. Two minutes of fiddling and up pops Avatar ( which I just bought on iTunes ) on the wall in full glory, excellent! And then... The video freezes and an error message pops up that says I'm not "authorized" to play this video on this device. Not that it can't, it won't.
Now, let me reiterate:
iPad paid for - check.
Movie, paid for - check.
Projector, paid for - check.
VGA adaptor, paid for - check.
Why can't I watch my movie on my iPad with my projector instead of the built-in screen?
YouTube plays fine, but iTunes stubbornly refuses. After determining that, yes, all the hardware is fine, yes the movie is legit, the employee consensus is: Apple is in their mind enforcing DRM a tad too ferociously and I will have to wait until it is addressed somewhere down the road.
Everyone in the store (full) thought it was a very cool idea and was impressed (momentarily anyway) with the quality of the video, all my geek friends were sitting around my house waiting to be wowed, too bad I couldn't make it go. If anyone can suggest a work around, I'd appreciate it.
Please Apple, ease up the reins a smidge I want to show off your cool technology...
Many folks are reporting units that are freezing/ locking up when playing any sort of video.....
Your problems have just begun. It's a hardware glitch regarding iPad & video.
A hard reset will not solve the issue (nor will a reinstallation of the software or a reboot of your modem &/or wireless router).
As you've probably guessed, I have this problem too. In my case it's with a new 3G that fedex just placed into my hands yesterday. I have an appointment today at a genius bar. Here's hoping that i can exchange this lemon for one that isn't....
I've been playing videos, ripped from DVD, using Handbrake (High Profile setting) and I find that periodically, the video app freezes. It doesn't happen while playing a video - it's when I open the app, it sticks in the gray screen, with the divider down the middle.First time this happened, not long after, the whole iPad froze (stuck in the start up screen until the battery died,) and I restored it from a backup. That solved the problem for about a month - when it happened again, I took it to the Genius Bar - that guy reset the settings and it solved the problem for about a week until it happened again today. I reset the settings again and it's fine for now.
I've had this problem since I first got my iPad when they first came out in April. Every time I play a video it will play for a couple of minutes and then it will freeze and need a reset. I have it in the black apple case and one day I tried taking it out and video played through. I thought I solved the problem, figured maybe it was overheating in the case. Well unfortunately it still does freeze up, leaving me unable to watch video for an extended period of time.
My iPad is having constant lock up/freeze when using video streaming eg: Air Video or Safari video streaming. I understand that this topic has been discussed quite extensively and the advice is to ask for the exchange in Apple Store. Unfortunately, I am outside of US and not able to request for an exchange. I have the following questions and hope someone would able to answer.
1. I understand it is hardware issue and may I know whether it can be solved by any firmware? Any news from Apple store that they will release fix? 2. Currently iPad is selling in US with limited warranty. If after few months, most of other countries will launch the iPad, will it change to international warranty like Macbook? 3. Has Apple acknowledge this issue officially so the exchange will be easier? 4. Does this problem relates to Wifi problem which recently acknowledged by Apple?
Any video watched at CNN completely freezes my iPad. About 20 seconds into a video the entire screen face of my iPad locks up and not even pressing the home button works; I have to conduct a hard shutdown and restart. I've tested this several times. No issues with YouTube or other video sites, or with iTunes or the videos app. Anyone else? Is there a fix for this?
I downloaded the entire first season of Damages... and after watching 10 minutes of the 10th episode, the video freezes. iPad is fine and I can jump out and do other things -- including watch other videos. It seems like it's just a corrupted file. Is there a way to download a purchased video again? I've looked at the other discussions about frozen videos, and I seem to have a unique problem.
On my new ipad2, any videos I try to watch (via Safari, Facebook, YouTube, etc...) always FREEZE and stop playing.
I've tried rebooting (holding power and menu buttons until restart) but it hasn't helped. I'm showing full wifi connection (all four indicator bars lit up). And are there settings I need to adjust, or is something wrong with this new ipad2 I just purchased?
My 3rd gen iPad will lock up once every 30 minutes or so while playing video from the videos app. This happens when watching 1.3gb videos, with over 5gb of free space. URL....
All the info I can find on the subject are people having problems with their first gen iPad and it being a hardware issue. The protocal was to take the iPad back to Apple and have it replaced. Somehow I doubt Apple will want to replace my 3 year old iPad. I'm hoping the community has stumbled upon a software solution? My iPad is perfectly in every other way, even plays games like Infinity Blade without issue.
I was looking forward to streaming video on my new iPad2 but it's not working. After 20 seconds or so, video and audio freeze. Interestingly, the timeline continues to progress. If you click behind the timeline but ahead of the freeze point, the video and audio pick up there instantly... So it's not like the bits aren't getting there!I'm having this trouble on every wifi network I've connected to - which include both G and N routers. The problem occurs in Netflix, YouTube, ABC Player. I have the wifi-only model iPad2.
Got my iPad 2 today, wifi only 64GB, got everything synced up nice. Was just testing everything out and tried to play all of my videos. Purchased music videos played absolutely fine, but I also had a couple videos I ripped from a DVD. When my iPad tries to play it, the screen goes black and the app completely freezes, I cant tap once, and then tap Done to go back to all of my videos. Press the home button, force close the videos app, try to reopen the app and it comes right back to the black screen. Try a soft restart, reopen the videos app, still black. Only way to solve it is to resync with iTunes. Keep in mind, the videos play perfectly fine on my iPhone 4 and classic.
