Unresponsive To Touch

Apr 21, 2010

My iPad (32MB Wifi Only) is currently unresponsive to touch. I cannot even unlock it from the lock screen. I have tried the "hard reset" where I hold the home button and lock button down until the iPad restarts, and I've tried to restore the iPad from a backup in iTunes. Nothing I've tried has had any success.

The iPad doesn't appear to be frozen; the iPad changes orientation when I turn it 90 degrees, and before I locked it, double-tapping the home button brought up the search screen. It syncs with iTunes. It simply is not responding to any touch.

I've babied my iPad from the time I've received it, and I've been using the Apple case for most of the time I've owned it, so I'm not inclined to believe that this problem is the result of trauma.

The problem seems to have gotten progressively severe over the course of the past five days. Initially, I was able to resolve the unresponsiveness to touch by locking and unlocking. It worsened to the point where I had to do the "hard reset" (hold Home + Lock). When that no longer worked, I was able to resolve the issue by connecting my iPad to iTunes. It's worsened still, and now I can't resolve the issue at all - not even with a restore from backup.

I have some unscientific thoughts about the cause. I use Safari to browse Google Reader frequently, and the touch problem often manifests during this time. The problem could be manifesting completely at random and it just statistically occurs when I'm in Reader. At any rate, even when the iPad is working fine, Reader (in Safari) doesn't scroll correctly and often the Safari is unable to render the article summaries correctly. I wondered if the Javascript that Google uses is somehow causing an unseen exception in the iPad that leads to this problem.

Unresponsive Touch

Aug 24, 2010

I have a 16gb iPad, wifi model, and the screen will sometimes be unresponsive. This seems to happen when i leave the screen alone for a while with it on. Like when watching a YouTube video in full screen mode, it will take about 2-3 taps on the screen before the menu will come up.

Unresponsive Touch Screen?

May 5, 2010

My iPad worked fine for a few weeks (aside from wi-fi connection issues), but now the screen is frequently unresponsive. I need to repeatedly tap, rub, hold icons for 10-15 seconds before it does anything. At first I thought I just had cold fingers, or the screen was dirty, or something else... But it's happening more and more.

(I've been an iPhone user for years, so I'm not new to touch screens. This is definitely not normal compared to an iPhone or Touch.)

Touch Screen Unresponsive In Safari

Jul 22, 2010

I've had some issues with the touch screen responding while in Safari. I'll touch the URL bar to go to a new site and nothing happens. I cannot scroll, either. Sometimes, when I do get the keyboard to pop up, it doesn't respond, either.

I do not have any response issues with the screen in other applications, however, and I was able to quit out of Safari without a problem. The problem seemed to resolve itself when I turned the iPad but has occurred since then.

Touch Screen Unresponsive In IPad 2?

May 30, 2012

I just recently bought an ipad 2, when i bought it, it all work fine until now the first trouble is that the ipad2 become unresponsive(touch screen wise)when playing games, when connecting or losing wifi connection, emailing, and mostly just being on,will have the chance of the ipad freezing up and also the ipad sometimes goes berserk while in touch screen nresponsive mode the screen is moving on its own and sometimes types things on its own as well.i have tried several ways to fix it, reset manually at the ipad2 settings, soft reset, hard reset, update the firmware(i have updated it to os5.1.1), restore ,and backup, and none of those help.I thought it would be unresponsive apps that make the ipad froze up, and i don't think that the issues, i'm hoping the problem in not hardware wise(bad ipad batch).

IPad Mini :: Unresponsive To Touch

Apr 24, 2014

I have an iPad Mini retina which suddenly stopped working, looks fine but it is completely unresponsive to touch. You cannot swipe to unlock or shutdown, it does nothing.

It's only 6 months old but isn't covered by the warranty anymore as I had the screen replaced a while back. I know I should have gone through Apple however we have a son with special needs and let's just say this isn't our first iPad screen replacement despite Otter Boxes all round. It would be very expensive to always go through Apple. (note this is the first replacement on this iPad though).

Now this happened to another Mini of ours and Apple took it in and sent it back 'fixed' saying all they did was restore iOS. Obviously I had done that myself to no avail and they did it in the Apple Store also without success but Apple Care did it and it worked.

So my question is, with this iPad is there anything more I can try? I have done a complete re-install (fresh install not a backup) and it's still unresponsive. Is there a tool to mimic whatever Apple Care did to the other one?

IPad 2 Touch Screen Unresponsive - Constantly Freezes Up

Mar 14, 2012

I got my ipad 2 as a present for xmas and for the past 2 weeks the touchscreen continuously freezes up. It won't let me touch anything at all. The ipad is still working as the lock button at the top works and the home button at the bottom still registers, its just the touch screen. I have held the lock and home button down to reset the ipad but when it turns back on it is still frozen. The only way it seems to work again is if I just leave it for about 2 hours or so and eventually it works again for a bit. I have also done a complete factory reset from my itunes on my computer and as soon as it restored itself and loaded all my data back on, guess what, the screen froze.

IPad 4 :: Multi-Touch Display Unresponsive In Particular Vertical Portion Of Screen

Aug 10, 2013

My iPad 4's Multi Touch display is unresponsive in a very small particular vertical portion of the screen. I have done all of the appropriate trouble shooting functions and they have all yielded negative results. I have scheduled an appointment with my local Apple Store. It is not the entire screen that is unresponsive to the touch it is only a very small portion just right of center screen.

Future Of Apple's Touch Devices - Proper Desktop OS On A Multi Touch Device

Apr 22, 2010

I read an article that compared Mirco$ofts approach to multi-touch to Apple's and they pointed out that Micro started big with things like surface and then working their way to smaller devices like windows phone 7 series and zune. Apple on the other hand have started with smaller devices like the iPhone and the iPod touch and working up to bigger devices like the iPad. My question is, how long do you think it will be before we see a proper desktop OS on a multi touch device from apple, be it a SlateMac or maybe a MacBookTouch. Or will the iPad eventually get its own, more powerful OS?

Jittery, Unresponsive Screen...

Dec 5, 2010

The screen on my iPad is going crazy. The behavior started while adding a new event to iCal.

The screen became unresponsive and/or wildly responsive to touch... meaning... it seemed to have frozen and wouldn't do anything then at a moments notice would react wildly to the touch. Trying to type a word would result in multiple letter keystrokes (ex. "Hellllllllllooooooooo") or when trying to spin the "wheel" to select a date for an event would make it spin like a roulette wheel.

After backing out of iCal, without my touching anything, the icon screens scrolled left and right very jittery... sometimes stopping between two of the icon screens. Almost like a ghost with Parkinson's disease was in control (bad example but the best way to describe it).

The behavior started about 3 days ago. It has behaved normally for some time in between these fits... but until this is figured out i haven't used it much.

Please help. I love my iPad and hate to see it in this condition. It's never been dropped, kicked, or really touched by any other human beings besides myself. It RARELY even leaves the house!!

Unresponsive / Laggy - Bad Memory

Oct 4, 2010

I am not sure what is going on, but my iPad 3G (16 gig) has become at times completely unresponsive. It gets so bad that pushing wake/sleep or home has no response for minutes at a time. I have updated to iOS 3.2.2 a while ago. I noticed instances of lag after that, but more recently it has made the iPad unusable. At first I wondered if it was the amount of free space (I was down to 145 mb), I removed some videocasts (leaving a gig free) and this improved the situation, but did not completely remedy it.IOS doesn't swap disk memory so this should be an issue. Bad memory? Also I activated it on Rogers, then recently went to the US for a month and activated it on AT&T (swapping sims). Canceled the ATT plan before I returned to Canada. Stuck the Rogers sim back in (I didn't cancel Rogers) and everything worked.I was starting to get the problem while in the states.I also wonder if the sim swap contributed?

Comiczeal 4 App Faulty - Unresponsive

Jun 7, 2010

I downloaded comiczeal 4 for the iPad and added lots of comics to it and everything was working fine. However the app will now only load a black screen. The menu bar very briefly appears (less than 1 second) upon initial launch and is not selectable. I can still switch between "pages" by tapping the sides of the iPad, but the only thing that ever appears is a blank black screen. I tried rebooting the iPad, and also re-booting the individual app but the problem persists.Does anyone have any support on how to rectify this issue? It seems to be stuck in limbo at the moment.

Has Been Unresponsive On And Off - Message Is Spooled

Nov 2, 2010

I tried to send several photos totaling maybe 20 megabytes to several people on Saturday. Since that time my iPad has been unresponsive on-and-off., My guess is the message is spooled and too large to send (I've gotten Exchange errors from the systems I tried to send mail to to the effect that: "The error that the other server returned was: 421 421 Exceeded allowable connection time, disconnecting. (state 18).")Fine, I'll just delete the message, I thought. Not so... In addition to the iPad being unresponsive, attempts to delete the message from "Sent" fail with the message:"Unable to Move Message The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"

iOS 4.2.1 bricked my iPad. It also causes iTunes to be unresponsive while trying to Sync with the iPad. Unplug iPad's USB wire & iTunes regains responsiveness. OS upgrade to 4.2.1 appeared to have worked fine but stopped during sync. Waited a long time for device to be responsive. Now screen shows Apple logo & progress bar about 98% done. Had my iPad for 6 weeks, have several accounts in mail. Sometimes mail freezes and does nothing. Mostly happens when I select multiple messages to delete. Only solution is to turn off and on again. If I quit mail and go back it resumes in the same place. It's annoying, have the same accounts on my Mac Mini and iPhone and they work just fine .
