IPad 3 :: Stuck In Recovery Mode - Unable To Restore / Unknown Error -1

Jun 13, 2013

All of a sudden my ipad 3 started rebooting over and over and now, it's stuck in recovery mode. When I try and restore, it stops at about 90% and gives me "Unable to restore, unknown error -1". The Apple Store told me that it's likely a hardware issue and the only thing to do is buy another one just like it at a discounted rate of $299. There's got to be SOMETHING to do, right?

Won't Work With Ios 4.2 / Can't Restore Because Of Unknown Error

Nov 28, 2010

So i synced my ipad to my computer and at first it wouldn't update to ios 4.2 but i eventually got it to update. i then started to organize all my apps into folders and i was playing with the multitasking when it showed the itunes logo and the usb cord telling me to sync the ipad like it had when i first bought it.
so i tried to sync it and it would say that it had found a ipad in recovery mode and that i must restore it before i could sync it. so i clicked ok and clicked restore. it then asked me if i was shure that i want to restore factory settings and that all my media and other data would be erased. i clicked restore and update because i had just backed up all my stuff on my computer. it then show that it is extracting the software and when it is done it says that it is verifying the restart with apple. then an error pops up and says that the ipad could not be restored because of an unknown error and it shows (21). i've tried restarting my computer and it still wont sync.

An Unknown Error Occurred (1611) When Try To Restore

Dec 22, 2010

Got a used ipad, the user reset it to remove his data. Ipad was signaling that it needed to connect to itunes. Hooked it up to itunes, which wanted to update the software. This failed and put the unit in restore mode. I have followed every procedure on the apple site, no result. Sometimes: iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065) before the 1611 error always followed by: The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1611).

Installed a clean windows 7 64bit on my computer. Updated it and installed itunes. Same problem. Itunes downloads the software, prepares the ipad for a restore. On the ipad an apple logo with a progress bar appears, but than it stops. Any ideas how to get out of this mess. My next step would be to use another computer, but I don't have one. I'm about ready to send it off to apple for repair, but maybe there are some other tricks to try.

Unknown Error 21 On ITunes When Try To Restore IPad 2?

Apr 7, 2012

It all started when I was deleting an e-mail (from an uknown adress), then Mail was closing and I went back to my homescreen. Suddenly I see that all my purchased apps where gone, only shortcuts to Safari and the original Apple programs were in place. Then I tried to push the home and the power button to restart the device, it turns back on again without any affect.

I connect my Ipad to the Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8. and open iTunes, then I tried to recover a safety copy from the list, without any luck. The result of this ends with a device showing just the Apple logo a while, and then the iTunes wire. The problem with showing "unknown error 21" in iTunes seems to be a usual Windows third-party issue, but I`m running it on a Mac.

I tried all basic steps in the Apple support, but it still came back with the message: "detected iPad in recovery mode...you will have to restore it before it can be used with iTune", and then a message that tells me the Ipad device can not me restored, unknown error 21.

I have no firewall, the time is correct, I'm running the latest iTunes version 10.6.1, I can connect to the iTunes store and it looks okay. I connected the original 30-pins connector on the back, unplugging all other USB-devices, I checked this and several other things, but I just can't get it to work. Before it turned into this "Brick" I noticed that the indication on used memory for programs (green) went down to zero and "other" (yellow) were the biggest area (app.14 GB).

IPad 2 :: Won't Restore / Unknown Error Occurred

Sep 2, 2014

I've tried numerous times to restore my iPad (2nd Generation), however each time it simply comes up with an error message "The iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3014)." This started when I tried to plug my iPad in for the 1st time since purchasing it quite some time ago. I have hundreds of pictures I don't want to lose. I'd love to have the iPad updated to the latest iOS, however if I could just have access to my emails, photos, etc. from the backup I'd be more than happy.

IPad 2 :: Restore Fails With Unknown Error(1) - ITunes And Recovery Mode Logo

Dec 9, 2014

iPad2 64GB was sluggish and we tried to update with latest iOS update, security 2014-005 and latest iTunes on iMac 12.01 It enters a recoverymode with the iTunes logo and connector symbol displayed on the screen. Recognized that iPad is connected and proceeded to restore to factory condition. Goes through several stages, FW verification, restore etc but fails to proceed past a certain point and puts up an unknown error (1) occurred message. Disabled firewall and tried restore and it failed in the same spot. Tried using power + home button combos to enter DFW or restore mode. None of them worked.

Took it to the Apple store and was told that it can't be debugged further because it did not yet boot up ( if it has the iTunes and connector symbol it must be in some state that it can be interacted with?) It's physically in a perfectly beautiful condition, nothing funky (jail breaking etc ) done to it, well taken care of. The tech said that he can offer a replacement for 299$ after he tried to restore it twice without success. I am surprised that this tech thinks that it cannot be probed with some low level FW tools through the serial connector to determine the system state.

Error Saying - Could Not Be Restored - An Unknown Error Occurred (40)

Aug 29, 2012

Here is an email I've drafted out in attempt to send to Apple but instead they have me an error saying,"We're sorry, the transaction cannot be completed at this time. Please try again later or contact us." Twice...

Quote:

Recently I've had my iPad hang. It hung for so long I decided to restart my iPad so I held the sleep button and home button until it restarted on its own.

Upon restarting, the Apple logo displayed as per usual and then came the iTunes logo and a picture of a USB below pointing to the iTunes logo. I assume this is the recovery mode. So I proceeded to click "Restore". It started downloading the update and went on to restore my iPad.

At the end of the restoration then came the error saying,"The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (40)."

This would not be a PC issue as I tried restoring it from my laptop which failed and so I tried it on my PC which failed as well. My network is also not the issue as I am fully connected to the internet with no issue syncing my other Apple devices and updating etc.. And since I have been able to sync with no problem (both on my laptop and my PC) for my other Apple devices, I strongly believe that it is not an issue with my security software.

I've read somewhere on the internet saying,"..due to out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software". Could it be that some part of the software on my iPad that saves the date stopped on that very day when it became "bricked"? And that now it is another date and that conflicts with the part of the software that uses this information? Would it help if I changed my desktop's date and try again? Please understand that at this point in time I've tried all I can and frankly am frustrated already. So I would like to know if it would work before trying.

So I've decided to make a trip down to a local Apple authorised service provider to see if they can fix this. They have stated that it is an issue that customers face and that some can be restored and some can not be restored. They then tried to restore for two times and concluded to me that the device is unable to be restored. They went on to offer me a 1-to-1 replacement where I would have to send in my current unit and pay a fee of S$400++ to have it replaced for a brand new iPad version 1 with the exact same specifications.

Tell me frankly and honestly that this offer is genuinely a good offer and I will take it. But take no offence; who in the right mind is going to pay 400 bucks for a device that is two generations backdated.

The apple authorised service provider also stated that the problem with my iPad was that of a hardware issue. I have no dropped it a single time, I have not ever used it until its burning hot, and there isn't a single tinge of a burnt smell coming off from it. If what they say is true then I have to say I'm a little disappointed in the lifespan of this iPad. And the standard 1-year warranty is definitely not fair for a product like this. You have to agree that in a mass production no matter how careful or accurate manufacturing machines are there are bound to have issues that may have produced a compromised product.

So here's a quick summary of the things I've tried:

- opened iTunes, connected device, set to DFU mode and tried restoring.

- tried with a laptop, PC Desktop.

- tried with a different 18 pin USB cable.

- tried self-diagnosing the issue after reading your troubleshooting page,
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting

- delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) and retried restoring again.

- sent to an Apple authorised service provider located at, eServ@313Somerset by Micro 2000 Technology Pte Ltd (6.5 kms) 313@Somerset (Somerset MRT), #B3-22 (Beside M1), 313 Orchard Road, Singapore 238895

All of which ended with a disappointment that my iPad died out of the blue and is now still unable to be restored back to factory settings.

Error 1013: Unable To Restore

Jan 15, 2011

Having an issue with my iPad (64 Gb WiFi/3G - AT&T). I was online today (WiFi) and noticed "Searching" where the nornal 3G indicator usually resides. I didn't think much of it and just kept surfing. After searching for what I was looking for, I put it on the charger and took a nap. After waking up, it was still "Searching" so I did a shutdown (Holding home button with Sleep/Wake button). After restarting I get the "Connect to iTunes" prompt. No big deal right? Wrong. I couldn't get my PC to recognize iPad so I found out how to get it in "Recovery Mode" and tried a system restore. All good right? Not so fast. Unable to restore iPad unexpexted error 1013. I Googled the error and came up with this:

1. Go to your Applications folder
2. Go to your Utilities folder
3. Launch Terminal
4. Type sudo nano /etc/hosts (without quotes) and hit return

[code]....

All good right? Again; Fail! I don't have any entries in the host file that match the gs.apple.com website. So here I am with my brick of an iPad. Anyone out there care to talk me out of a "This is a hardware issue" theory (For the record, YES. I did try to restore the iPad from recovery mode on a different laptop with a functional version of iTunes)?

IPad 2 :: Unable To Restore - 4013 Error Code

Jun 28, 2014

I am trying to figure out why I cannot restore my Ipad2. I got a red screen of death that flashed scripts and defaulted the ipad to the restore mode. But when I connect to Itunes it wont let me restore and throws a 4013 error code. I have read the fault code description and changed everything that has to do with the USB connection. The computer is reading the Ipad so it leaves me to think things may be fine. How to fix this so I can update the ipad?

IPad 2 :: App Store Error "An Unknown Error Has Occurred" Message

Mar 17, 2012

I am using ipad2 with version 5.1. Whenever I try to use the app store either to update an app or to get a new app I get the message "An unknown error has occurred." There is no error number. This started yesterday I believe. I know there are many similar questions on this site, but I haven't found a solution that works for me. I have tried powering off and back on again. My wifi connection is good. I also have an ipod (2nd generation), and I am not having a problem with that. Does anyone have a suggestion for me?

IPad Mini :: Unable To Restore IOS 7.0.4 - 3004 And 3194 Error

Dec 1, 2013

I've been trying to restore my ipad to iOS 7.0.4 for 3 days (I really mean it) but I just get Error 3004 or 3194 continually. These are things I have tried :

1 - Check the windows host file ( put the gs.apple.com , remove it , test with different IPs , blank it , even delete it and etc .. )
2 - Test with different itunes versions
3 - Test with different computers
4 - Test with different internet providers
5 - Test with Proxy , VPN etc.
6 - Check, change and test with different options in internet options.
7 - I'm sure about my internet connectivity.
8 - Test all the above tests in both normal and DFU mode.
9 - Uninstall any AV programs.
10 - Made sure the firewall is disabled.
11 - Connected via LAN and WLAN both even with cell phone's internet.

But I still get the same error again and again . I actually open gs.apple.com in the browser with no problem and fast. The error appears when I choose the iOS ( with shift + click on the restore button ) and after extracting section.
