Standby Time And Battery Charging?

Jul 28, 2010

I'm not sure if this is normal, but my iPad when plugged in using the supplied charger will only charge to 97%? Also my battery is draining really quickly, my iPad was charge up over night, it's not been used all day but already down to 65%, is that right?

Battery Charging Time In Various States

May 6, 2010

This I could shift to a USB vs. straight power discussion but I only am curious about charge time in general.

As I see it the iPad can be charged in three different states:
-Turned on while working
-Sleep Mode
-Powered Down

I am just curious how the overall charge time is altered by these different states. (i.e. does it charge faster if I power it down or just leave it asleep, etc.)

IPad 3 :: Battery And Charging Time

Jul 30, 2012

Everyone who has an iPad 3 knows that it takes substantially longer to charge than the iPad 2, and, if you are unfortunate, the device can drain the battery quite fast. Some people have been reporting accelerated battery drain, and some have not.

When I first purchased the iPad 3 and restored it from my backup, the battery was draining very rapidly. When it was plugged in and I was merely using safari at mid brightness, I would still LOSE 1 or 2% per hour on my battery.

Finally, I got fed up with the device and restored it. As soon as I did, my battery started charging more than twice as fast as it was before. While I was happy with the change, I still wanted to know exactly what was drawing so much battery life. Alas, without the problem reoccurring, I would be unable to do any testing.

Yesterday, however, my battery life dropped again dramatically. There was no way that I was going to restore every time this issue arose, so I decided I would do some power draw measurements on different processes to find out exactly what was sucking my battery faster than it could charge.

I ran a draw test on the amount of current that was being used by open processes, and found something that astounded me: even though the app was closed (closed out of the multitasking menu as well), Facetime was STILL drawing between -100mA and -500mA of power, with the -500mA being more frequent of the two. I switched it off, and my battery life returned to normal.

Go into your iPad's settings and disable Facetime completely. For some reason, it's drawing a tremendous amount of power even when the app is closed. I don't know why it does this, but hopefully the battery drain for Facetime is a bit less significant with the next patch.

Battery Taking Long Time For Charging On IPad 3

Mar 26, 2012

Got an iPad 3 16GB black. Watched a 2 hr movie last night, full brightness. iPad was at 80% when I started watching, finished at 30% by end. Surfed a little bit before going to bed. iPad was at 18% when I plugged charger in. Shutoff (not sleep) so there would be nothing running. 8-1/2 hrs later, turn on iPad and it's only at 85%. This seems like a long time to charge. Is this normal?

IPad Air :: Battery Charging Taking Long Time

Aug 21, 2014

I recently bought an iPad Air (Yesterday, WiFi, 32GB). It's a wonderful wonderful tablet. It also has a great battery that is surprisingly long lasting. But, I noticed that it takes a long time to charge it. I was on like 55-65% battery and I plugged the charger and measured about 1 hour and 10 minutes and it only got to 85%! Now maybe that's normal and if it is I'm okay with it cuz it does have a great battery, and maybe it comes with a "price" of long charging. But I wanted to ask anyways, is it normal?

Losing Battery While On Standby?

Jul 2, 2010

I've had my iPad for just over a month now, and so far it's been great. Over the past couple of days, I've noticed that my iPad is losing battery while I leave it in standby on my desk. While I sleep, the iPad loses between 4-7% of the battery. It can't be anyone else in the house because I've got a password lock on it and no one would really be interested anyway. As far as I can tell, there's no major problem while I'm using the iPad, but I'm going to try a video test this weekend. Does this happen to anyone else? Any tips on what I do? Oh and I keep the iPad connected to wifi, and it receives push notifications every now and then.

Battery In Standby Not As Good As It Was?

Aug 10, 2010

I got the iPad on launch day and like everybody else was wowed by it's battery life. I now find that I'm losing 15-20% a day overnight even when it isn't in use. The battery during use still seems very good, but I'm now finding that I only get 3-4 days between charges vs. 7-10 days when I first got it despite no difference in usage. Is anybody else seeing this?

3g Battery Drain In Standby Mode

Nov 20, 2010

I have a ipad 3g that i cannot seem to find reference to in this forum so it have been grateful for any assistance that can be provided. Despite switching off all push notifications in areas of strong cell coverage the battery charge on my ipad 3g drops at an alarming rate whilst in standby mode 6% per hour. I have reset the device and conditioned the batter all to no avail 7% battery drain per hour limits the mobility of the device.

Standby Battery - Drop 10 Percent When Not In Use?

Mar 29, 2011

This morning my iPad 2 battery was at 47% or so, I closed the smart cover, putting the iPad to sleep. When I got home 9 hours later the battery was at 37%. Do I need to fully shut down running apps (double tap home key)? It just seems that I shouldn't lose 10% when it's not in use and the smart cover is shut.

IPad 3 :: Battery (even In Standby) - Shutting Off Processes?

Jun 11, 2012

I have the new iPad (3) and a number of processes keep running in the background even though I have "deleted" them in the multi-task pane, i.e., I have double clicked the circle, held down each app and then hit the red dash so that no apps are running in the background. For example, I keep getting notifications that apps need to be updated which means my iPad is checking with the app store - this is happening even though my notification center is empty. I also have a battery app that tells me 30+ processes are running even though I have no open apps. I understand that some processes must always run, but I would like to disable the unnecessary ones b/c I continue to have terrible battery performance, even in standby mode. As for standby battery performance, the strange thing is that sometimes my battery doesn't drain in standby at all and then other times it drains over 10% over one night. Each time there are no apps running in the background and I have no idea what is causing the inconsistent behavior, but I can only assume there must some process issue.

IPad Air 2 :: High Battery Drain In Standby And Airplane Mode

Dec 11, 2014

5 weeks ago I've got my new iPad Air 2. It's the 128GB WiFi+Cellular version but no SIM card installed yet (I told Siri to turn off mobile data). iOS 8.1.2 already installed. First everything seems fine until I saw how much the battery drains while I'm not using the ipad.

I have disabled almost everything I've found as possible solutions to avoid battery drain with iOS 8...

- Bluetooth off
- mobile data off
- Brightness almost completely left (15-20%)
- auto brightness off
- automatic app updates off
- background updates off
- location services only enabled for find my iPad
- all iCloud services disabled ecxept iCloud backup, keychain, reminders, calendar, find my iphone

Installed apps (additionally to the default Apple Apps): GMail, Youtube, Facebook, Amazon, ebay, dropbox, TV Sideview, brother iPrint&scan. Push notifications only enabled for GMail, ebay and facebook and the default Apple Apps Reminders, Calendar, Messages (iMessage on or off is no difference to battery behaviour), Facetime.

I'm using the iPad mostly for surfing the web using Safari. So this is the app with high battery usage, which can be found in the settings.

I can barely reach 6-8 hours of usage and 1-2 days of standby until it runs out of battery and I have to charge it again.

Before I go to sleep or leaving home for work, I can either enable airplane mode or not, the battery will drain up to 20% (mostly 10%-18% in airplane mode within 7 or 10 hours). I've already set it up as a new ipad four times but there is no change.

I called Apple Care Support and send a diagnostics but this says the battery is fine. I could believe that and last week the iPad turns off by itself at 12% battery left. So I called Apple again and send the iPad to service center. UPS picked it up on Monday and sent it from Germany to Apple service center in Netherlands, where it arrived on Tuesday 11:30 and was already returned at 18:00 to Hermes. They restored it and found no errors but I think in this short time they could not check the battery behaviour accurately. So I received my original iPad back on Wednesday, turned on and left with 95% battery - all options enabled except bluetooth. I connected to my WiFi, logged in with my iCloud account and installed the apps mentioned above I turned of the mentioned settings and used the iPad until 58% (some short standby minutes) and turned WiFi off, turned airplane mode on and this morning, only 48% battery left.

Charging The Battery - Message - Charging Not Supported With This Accessory

Jul 4, 2012

I am having problems getting the new IPad to charge at all and sometime it displays this message.' charging not supported with this accessory'. This message is appearing occasionally on my 5 week old new iPad (3) within a few minutes of plugging it in.: (It is also not charging after this message appears. I am using the supplied wall socket and cable. I am also having problems getting the iPad to charge at all even if the message does not show. This is frustrating me no end. I expected a reliable device given the amount I paid.

I rang Apple support today (twice) and it made a liar of me working just fine for few minutes the first time then again failed, then for hour or so after the second call seemed to work just fine. Now it is not charging, and won't charge despite repeatedly unplugging and repluging, Switching off the iPad and turning it back on etc etc.
