Short Range WiFi Receiver On IPad 2?
Nov 14, 2011
Is it normal for the iPad2 to have a short range wifi receiver. I use mine at work and have access to 2 different wifi hot spots. With my net book and Nokia N8 Mobile phone I can see about 10 hot spots which include the 2 I can connect to, but using my new iPad2 I only see 3 and annoyingly it doesn't include either of the 2 that I have access to. Is this low range normal for the iPad 2.

Wifi Range Of Ipad 2?
Jun 21, 2011
I am a new Ipad 2 owner for about 3 weeks now. i am having issues with the range of my ipad from the wireless router. I have 3br ranch home. I get great transfer rates until I get to our attached sun room and then the mps numbers are very erratic. Sometimes they are 9+ other times less than 1mps. I have replaced my old G style router with a new Cisco E1000. I also have an ipod that seems to not have this issue. Is this a known fact that the Ipads have a short wireless ranage? My next step is to get some cables and move the router to a more central location, but I feel that I should not have to do this.

IPAD 2 - WIFI Range Unimpressive
Mar 29, 2011
I just received my iPAD2 yesterday and am impressed with everything about it except for the lack of range in my home using WIFI (Verizon FIOS 25/25 with an Actiontec router running 80211G).
Every other wireless device we have; a MacBook Pro and even an ancient Dell Latitude laptop is able to surf the web with good speed from the Master Bedroom. But the iPAD cannot connect. DISAPPOINTING!
I spoke with tech support today at Apple and though we took several troubleshooting steps nothing improved the range.
I also spoke with Verizon FIOS tech support and their suggestion is for me to get an N class router to replace my existing G class Actiontec.

Limited Wifi Range/Unable To Access Any Public Wifi ?
Dec 8, 2010
Hi, not sure if I've seen this topic covered, so here goes:
I've had 4.2 OS since implementation with no problems with the wifi...until this past weekend. Then, I logged onto wifi at a motel.
Unable to get new connection following morning. Unable to access any public wifi since. I'm back home, and can't connect to my wifi unless I am literally one foot from my router, signal so low as to be ridiculous. Tried multiple trusted routers and reset multiple times at my home, friends' homes, etc. Also, have tried:
re-set all settings, including network settings; brightness up; join network on/off; factory reset, back to square one. NOTHING. Bought 1.5 weeks ago. I know it's not the routers, have used multiple brands/types with no joy.

IPad 2 :: Wifi Range - Way To Boost The Signals?
Apr 8, 2011
Just got iPad2 (new user). Have an older Linksys 802.11b 2.4GHz router (BEFW11S4). It sits about 50-60 feet away in our office (another building, but right next to our house). Window sliding door separates our house from the window/wall of the office (not metal or anything - just a standard exterior wall). We have one PC laptop connected in the office, an iMac in the house with good connection, another PC laptop in the house with good connection. The iPad2 has the worst connection in the house - I barely get a signal even if I sit right next to the iMac that gets a good signal. We are also having trouble with a new AppleTV that sits just 4 feet from the iMac. It has yet to connect well enough to view a Netflix show. Why are the two newest apple items having a hard time getting a good signal? They are both literally 60 feet from the router and right next to an iMac getting a decent signal. Advice? Any way to boost the signal?

IPad Mini :: No Apple Product Connecting To WiFi Range Extender
Aug 25, 2014
We have six Apple devices (three iPads and three iPhone 5) which are suddenly no longer connecting to our WiFi Range Extenders. When logging on, a pop up logs in to ibook.info and reads 'Authentication Required'. We've already entered the username and password but no luck in overcoming this.
How to get this working well? We are limited to using internet from our devices at home!

Won't Find Wifi Range On Mac
May 11, 2010
I've noticed on our macbook (about 1 to 1.5 years old) that when I'm at the end of our driveway that the wireless signal from the house is nice and strong. I just took the ipad out there and the same wifi signal drops before I even get halfway down the driveway. Not even a close comparison.
I've had zero problems with wifi connecting/disconnecting otherwise and I've been very pleased with it. Just surprised that the ipad's ability to pick up the signal seems to be rather lame compared to the mackbook. Any others had something similar and found a fix?

Won't Work With Wifi / Bad WIFI Range
Nov 12, 2010
When I'm at home the ipad works fine IF I'm in the same room as the router, but the signal is weak anywhere else, while the macbook and iphone pick it up just fine anywhere in the house.
At work, the ipad reads about half the number of available networks as the iphone and macbook do, and those that it does pick up are at very low signal strength. I can't even log into the network that I usually use, while the macbook and iphone have no problem.
I've read the discussions here about adjusting the router, but my problem seems to be with the ipad itself because this is happening everywhere. The ipad is only a week old with the newest software update. Is this a common problem? Should I return my ipad?

Wifi Range Compared To IPhone Or Macbook

Won't Find Wifi Range / Can't Find Same Signal On Ipod
Jun 2, 2010
If I walk away from the router (Apple Airport Extreme) with the iPod, the signal strength gradually goes from max (3 "bars") to min (just a dot) in about 75 ft.
If I walk back towards the router, the signal strength indicator gradually comes back up to 3 bars.
With the iPad, if I do the same thing, the signal goes from max to min suddenly, not gradually, and it does that at less than half the distance of the iPod. After just a short while at min, it then drops the Wifi signal entirely.
Also, with the iPad, with the signal strength indicator at min, if I walk back towards the router, it never comes back up to max, but stays at min.
The router doesn't need new firmware. I also played with the display brightness setting (as suggested by Apple), but of course (is it April 1st???), that didn't make any difference.
