Safari Hands Off EBooks To Stanza, Not IBooks. How To Change That?
May 5, 2010
I have my eBooks collection on my university office computer and I use calibre's built-in server to make them available to me wherever I am. I use Safari to obtain a catalog listing of my eBook library and click on a book title link to download it. Safari then presents me with a button labeled "Open in 'Stanza.'" Stanza is an iPhone app that I have to run pixel doubled on my iPad. I would rather Safari let me open it in iBooks which is optimized for the iPad. How do I change that behavior?

I've had no difficulty transferring ebooks from my Mac to my iPhone using Calibre & Stanza. However, when I attempt the exact same transfer to my iPad I get windows requesting a username & password, or a notification of a "catalogue error" and cannot connect to host" and another requesting the catalogue name and URL. All my attempts to solve these problems have failed.Information : iMAC 24" , iPhone 3GS, iPad WiFi Mac OS X (10.6.4).
Should I Switch From Unstable IBooks To Stanza On My IPad 2
Apr 10, 2012
I am having a **** of a time with iBooks on iPad2. Here are a couple of sections from a separate discussion I started over iBooks failing to load:
"I have aniPad2 and my iBooks app has a tendency not to load every so often. I select it, the bookshelf appears (empty). After 10 seconds or so I am returned to the home page of apps. I do have over 3,000 books on my iPad so I am wondering whether it is just having problems heaving all those files onto to bookshelf?
"Okay, so having re-re-installed iBooks on my iPad I am starting to despair of ever solving this. This is what happened:
Since I last installed iBooks I have opened the app approx. four times. The first time it re-loaded with my books and I searched for the book I'm currently reading - Billy Bathgate. I read, then closed by clicking the home button.
The next two times I opened iBooks I read and then closed the same way as above.
The fourth time I tried to open iBooks the empty bookshelf appeared and after about 10 seconds it closed.
So, if the number of books is not an issue and the books load at least once, what on earth is the problem?"
Today I deleted and reinstalled iBooks for the umpteenth time and I am now heartily sick of the app. So my thought is perhaps to move to Stanza wholesale.
My Questions For The Comunity:
1.Is it better to move to Stanza? Is it more stable, considering the number of books and the issues with iBooks?
2.Is there a faster way of transferring book files to Stanza than via iTunes?
3.Or a faster way withing iTunes, considering the high number of books I have?
4.Having tried deleting iBooks from iPad2, from iTunes, re-installing and syncing, is there someone out there with the definitive answer to the iBooks problem?
P.S. Okay, not sure whether I should put this at the moment of this question because I wonder if it is significant but - when I last synced, I noticed in the list of ebooks on my iPad2 (from selecting my iPad on the left side in iTunes) that there are some books which are greyed out and have what looks like a syncing symbol in the left hand column.
Am I blathering on about iBooks while it struggles with books not completely synced?
Ok. So how do I transfer ebooks downloaded and stored on my IPad3 to my mac mini? I am running 10.6.8 on the mini, won't be upgrading to Lion until my current book is finished this summer (not taking any chances on mismatched apps!) Won't transfer via usb and didn't transfer via wifi.
I've been told that my new iPad will not work with U.S. Public Library electronic books. These books are in the format of DRM protected PDF's and ePub's. Is this true? iPads don't work with Public Libraries?Someone suggested that Apple's feud with Adobe Flash is behind this. I'm looking for the FACTS about this issue - NOT people's opinions. Any more detailed explanation would be sincerely appreciated. Specifically: What is the technical basis for this issue? Is there any way around it - a circumvention? Does Apple have a future compatibility plan for public libraries?
A friend gave me about 500 ebooks to install on my iPad using iBooks. I've downloaded them and opened in both iZip and Zip Browser. I can't figure out how to select multiple files and import them all at once without manually importing each one individually.
Drawbacks Of Ebooks And Online Ibooks/kindle Library?
Sep 6, 2010
1) I think the e-versions of books are crazy expensive. Charging the same price for an ebook that a physical book costs is highway robbery. 2) I generally only read a book once, there are exceptions, but these are few and far between.
It seems to me that an online elibrary is the best of both worlds. Charge a fee to sign up, than charge one to bucks to rent or borrow a book.
IPad Mini :: Wiped All Data - Purchased EBooks On IBooks Gone?
Sep 3, 2014
Here's the deal: I bought some ebooks on iBooks and I did NOT backed up them in iCloud (at least not by myself). Yesterday I wiped out all data in my iPad mini, I reset and deleted all data.
Then I downloaded all my apps and music again, but when I tried to download my books... well, they're gone. FROM THE "PURCHASED" TAB. So I tried to search for the books, one by one, and download them that way. But they appear as NOT PURCHASED. They are asking me to purchase them AGAIN.
I tried to download them to 2 different PCs, but it's the same, they appear as not purchased. So I looked in the iTunes purchase history (in both PCs) and there is still the info of the day of the purchase of every book (and the sum I paid for every one of them, and the "order number").
This is only for the ebooks i bought on iBooks, my music and videos and apps are all there... but NOT my books. How can I solve this? Do I have to REPURCHASE AGAIN???
Unable To Get Ebook With Pictures/iBooks Store No Ebooks With Pictures?
Nov 6, 2010
I purchased two books from IBooks store (both $12.99). "A Company of Heroes" is one. The books are excellent but do not contain any pictures that the hardcover editions have in my local bookstore. I could have bought the print versions for around $15.00,
now I feel it was a waste of $$. I checked all the settings and the addendum has a list of all photos in the book but no way to access them, if they are even there. Any thoughts

Several iOS5 beta testers have reported that Stanza will not run in iOS5 and any books in the Stanza data base will be lost. Stanza is, in my opinion, the best ebook reader for iPad. Since Amazon has bought out Lexcycle, they now own Stanza and many are of the opinion they do not plan to update it and allow it to die, reducing competition with Kindle. I have searched and cannot find anything comparable. I especially want the same library menu editing options, including web look up of book covers and file editing features of Stanza. In other readers, the edit options are limited to delete.
I am using iBooks app to store many PDF reference files. I am getting the PDFs from my dropbox app. File names in dropbox are descriptive, but when I chose to view them in iBooks they get a different title like "form 2 XXXX".
I cannot seem to find if I can change title once file is in iBooks.

I use my iPad mainly for work. Generally I get pdf documents into iBooks by email. However, the title of the document when it gets into iBooks is changed, often to something that doesn't mean much (e.g. Microsoft Word Introduction).
Is there a way to change the document title as it appears in the list of files in iBooks?
I'm getting around this by putting the document into iBooks via iTunes where the document title remains the file name but I can only do this at home - I want to be able to email documents and have the file name appear as the title in iBooks.
I transferred several DJVU books to Stanza, totaling about 3 to 4 gigs. The Stanza folder is located at the bottom of the "App" tab in iTunes. None of the DJVU books appeared in my iPad, and none of them are shown in the Stanza folder under the "App" tab in iTunes. But the SPACE is taken!? 3 to 4 gigs!
Today a czech tech writer/blogger posted a picture of himself holding an iPad in his tweet. The tweet reads as "I've got it. (review after the NDA expires)". I've cached the pic here in case Apple shuts it down. This could mean that the device could be already in manufacturing and both the software and hardware is ready. Or is it some kind of fake?
As a native English speaker living in Holland I would prefer to be able to go the UK iBooks Store on my iPad. How do I get it to change from the Dutch language store to the UK one by default?
OK, so I thought the ipad would be great for reading ebooks, just as the iphone was pretty good but small. So I have my books, I have my apps, but I have a lot of questions/problems.
1. Kindle/Stanza/bn - all apps are in iphone size, do the 2x and the print is so fuzzy it causes eye strain
I checked the app store and it looks like these apps are not being updated for ipad???
2. I have .lit and pdf formats and can't figure out how to get these books into ibooks or even itunes to sync with the ipad. Any help would be appreciated.
3. Stanza's sharing doesn't work with ipad?? Anyone know a work around on that - I did already re-install bonjour and I'm not sure why teh upgrade to itunes uninstalled that component
