Restoring From A Backup: Why Does It Not Re-sync The Apps Automatically

Jun 4, 2011

I had to restore my iPad 2 from my previous backup today, and all went fine(albeit it took ages), but it didn't re-sync my apps. I had to go through the entire list, adding them, one by one, in case I missed one and I had to spend some time, reorganising the home screens.

Automatically Sync New Apps

Jun 25, 2011

I'm wirelessly syncing and I have the option for "Automatically Sync New Apps" option checked. When I did the sync it of course installed all of the new apps. I deleted the ones I didn't want. I did another sync and it brought back again the apps I didn't want. When syncing before, it wouldn't bring back the apps I had deleted. Anyone else have this issue?

Restoring From Backup - Non 3G To 3G ?

Oct 28, 2010

I've exchanged my WiFi only model to the 3G model. I'd like to keep my settings and apps from the previous iPad to the new one so I've made a backup. When I get my 3G iPad do I just do a full restore? A full restore won't overwrite any 3G only data that exists on that model iPad? I just want to make sure I do it the right way without buggering anything up.

Restoring A 3g From A Wifi Backup

May 3, 2010

For those people who had Wifi models and then bought 3g models, did you have to do anything special to get the Wifi backup to load onto the 3g? Or was it just a simple "restore from backup" the first time you plug in the 3g?My first attempt at "restoring" the 3g from the Wifi backup just now ended with some kind of error and it copied over my Safari bookmarks and my music but none of my Apps.

Restoring Backup To A Different IPad

Oct 25, 2011

I owned an iPad 1 until this spring, when I sold it for financial reasons. I'm about to get one again, however. It is also an iPad 1, 32gb, except this one will have 3G. Normally, I wouldn't want to restore a backup to a different device, just to avoid any potential issues and start fresh But I lost some files I'd created on my first iPad. Since I have the backup iTunes took of it, can I safely restore that backup to the new iPad - keeping in mind the backup was for a WiFi model, not the 3g? Any cautions to be aware of? Would love to get my files back!

App Data From A Backup Without Restoring IOS System

Aug 30, 2010

iPad was experiencing wifi drop outs. Apple Store tech wiped & reinstalled iOS and wifi now works fine again. Tech advised me to set up as new iPad and not restore from backup or else wifi issue would return. The first sync as new iPad restored all my apps. However, all apps data & settings are gone, i.e. Good Reader files, Maps bookmarks, Air Sharing files, FTPOnTheGo and VNC bookmarks, PatternMusic songs, TouchOSC templates, Weather Channel locations, etc.Is there any way to get such app data from a backup without restoring iOS system files?

Restoring IPad 2 From ICloud Backup?

Jun 24, 2011

I just updated my iPad 2 and girlfriends iPhone 4 to beta 2. Restored the ipad from icloud backup in about 20 minutes. now its downloading all the apps over the air. Its going to take awhile. My girlfriends phone is reading 16 hours to finish the icloud backup. I like the idea of icloud but plugging it into the computer is alot quicker however if you choose to backup to the cloud you no longer have current backups on your computer. Apple needs to either enable both at the same or build something into mac osx that lets itunes download your current backup every night so you always have the most current backup ready to be installed in less then 16 hours.

Restoring Backup In Apple Configurator

When i click Prepare Apple Configurator starts configuring the iPad but stops at "Restoring backup". The iPad seems to have finished restoring when I browse through it but does not jump over to the next step, Supervise. I think something in the restore process went wrong.

Use With Apple Configurator To A Backup System Yet And Tried Restoring?

May 13, 2012

Has anyone else tied the Apple desktop or laptop they configured to use with Apple Configurator to a backup system yet and tried restoring? I have read this Apple KB article, but wanted to know if there are any gotchas or anyone experienced anything else that was detrimental in their backups. It says just to the ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator directory is important, but this is a departure from the iPhone Configuration Utility where Apple representatives warned us about ever removing that device, because the certificates for signing profiles could never be exported to another system (despite certificate export utilities). I do not know if I should be so worried, so I was curious if anyone else had experience.

Hacking :: Restoring From Backup With Unsorted Icons?

May 27, 2014

I restored backup of a previous iPad (which was jailbroken and running iOS 6.1) on a new one (7.1.1). The icons/apps were all garbled, and bore very little resemblance to my previous layout.

Last time I did this (about a year ago) was the same (that was when upgrading from 5.something to 6.something on the same device). Is this a "feature", something we have to live with, or is there a way to make sure the restore will also restore icons layout (other than - I suppose - starting an iPad installation literally from scratch, as a new device)? Could it be related to my using certain tweaks that deal with folder layouts (Iconoclasm, Springtomize...)? I'm not sure about the latter, as I wasn't using no layout/UI tweaks when moving from 5 to 6 last year, but the result (garbled icons) was the same.

IPad Mini :: Restoring From Most Recent Backup

Oct 12, 2013

A friend of mine recently developed a fault with the screen on his iPad mini resulting in Apple replacing the iPad mini with a new one. Before they did this I advised him to backup his iPad so that in this event he would be able to restore his apps/settings etc to the way it was. A full backup was done the night before the iPad was taken into Apple and replaced.

When the new iPad was plugged in and restored from the most recent back up (which is the one taken the night before the iPad was replaced) it hasn't restored anything from the old iPad - no music/apps or photos but seems to have restored some things from his old iPhone. Not sure whether this makes a difference but the old iPad was iOS6 and the new one is running iOS7 - I wouldn't have thought this would make a difference but Unsure why else the new iPad isn't restoring correctly?
