Poor WiFi Connection

Jun 12, 2010

I live in a village outside Winchester in Hampshire, UK and have an iMac connected via WiFi to a Netgear router. We live in a normal 15 year old, brick-built, two storey detached house.

The iMac is upstairs and the router is downstairs in a study. The iMac has had intermittent problems getting and keeping the WiFi connection over the last months - but they seem to have improved recently.

I now have an iPad (US), which refuses to connect to the Netgear router unless I sit next to it. Does it sound as if my Netgear router is not powerful enough and should be replaced?

Also when at mcdonalds it has difficulty locking onto the AT&T signal.

Poor Wifi Performance On IOS

Dec 6, 2010

I just bought an ipad and the wifi performance is awful; can't watch the apple tour videos, for example. My ISP is clear (WiMax home router). I put the speedtest app on both my ipad and iphone (3GS) and also ran it on my mbpro on both wifi and wired to the router. Results are striking. Looks to me like iOS is not doing wifi very well.

Poor Wifi Connection With 16GB

Jun 19, 2010

So at the beginning of the month on payday, I went to an apple store and spent allot of money on something I really didn't have the money for, this device is the best gadget I ever had. I'm talking about the iPad. There is however one issue that is getting tiresome, that would be video streaming issues on apple related things such as iTunes and demo videos on apple.com. YouTube works great, maybe a few hiccups in watching a video that's about it.

I haven't been experiencing the poor wifi connection issues like many others here, it could have something to do with this being a newer unit that had all of the bugs worked out of the wifi node, which in my opinion is hardware related. This thing is super fast, even faster in my opinion than the MacBook pro I used to own. Do any of you think the wifi issue is hardware or software related? My computer geek guess is that it is hardware, possibly faulty wifi nodes that aren't seated properly on the dock connector strip that runs through the iPad.

Anyway, has apple fully acknowledged this problem? If so, when do you think they will start offering repairs for the issue.

Poor WiFi - WIFI Router

Apr 5, 2010

Like many I am having poor wifi reception. Can see all the issues in the Apple support page on discussions. Does anyone know of a site where I can check the speed of my connection on the iPad. I use four sites for checking my laptops and desktop, but they will not work on the iPad all require Java or flash..(guess I am beginning to see some of the problems some said there would be with the iPad) Also, below are my issues with the wifiI have two laptops, a netbook and an iTouch they all receive good strong signals in my home. In fact they all pick up several signals from nearby. The iPad only shows the wifi signal from my home. The signal continually goes from good to very weak and then I cannot do anything on the internet. Sometimes it helps to ?renew the lease? or turn off the iPad a restart. Like I said even my iTouch picks up all the signals in the area. NOT THE iPAD though. This is a big problem and I sure hope they can come up with a fix. Extremely Disappointing. Its certainly not my router because I am having NO problems with my two laptops, netbook and iTouch I have a basic g wifi router

Ipad probs with my DMQJRB2YF18Y model A1460 fccid BCGA1460

I Have done sll the reset, check router, blablabla .... Even went to mcD and could not connect there. I have reception, close ( where I can see router) 3 bars, far ...next level of house (where it used to work) the small little dot of the 3 bars. .??

My wife has a ipad2

She has reception without a problem any distance from router. I had reception anywhere in the hose, but now I must be within line of sight to have wifi.

I never dropped, changed or did anything hut upgrade the software when Apple said i should. My ipad is now nothing more than my biggest frustration .

I have done everything i could find, like switch off both the pad and router, reset ipad, forget network, delete history, delete cookies, etc etc .....

Poor Reception On Wifi - Drops Signals Quickly

Jun 19, 2010

I love my Ipad but the Wifi issue has just about gotten the best of me. I have a 2009 Airport Extreme and just added an Airport Express to extend Wifi in my house. Between my 2009 Imac, my wife's 2009 Macbook, and our kids 2nd generation Ipod Touches we have really good Wifi coverage(i.e. full bars at nearly every point in our house). The Ipad is a completely different story.

Even if I am within 20 feet of my Airport Extreme or Express, or even in the middle of both of them, I have very poor wifi reception with my Ipad. It will quickly go from full bars to none. I have tried separating the channels on the Airport Extreme, resetting the Ipad and network settings, etc. and nothing helps. The Apple store even replaced my Ipad thinking that would solve the issue but it hasn't. Any ideas of other ways to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

WiFi Connectivity - WEP Vs WAP

Jul 10, 2010

First off, the only WiFi I have is Verizon FIOS. I have it at home, at work, and at my boss's house. I haven't tried hotspots, so I'm not sure how that reacts.
The problem is the iPad won't remember the password for the WiFi. Worse, now it won't even connect. Originally, the router was set up for WEP; Apple Support said they were having problems with Verizon, change the router to WAP, which was done. But now it's worse than it was with WEP. The only GOOD thing is that the WAP password is easier to remember than the WEP

3G - WiFi Connectivity

Jun 6, 2010

My 3G + WiFi model only connects via the 3G? I check settings and it shows my WiFi id, but on the top left corner of the unit it reads AT&T. Does this mean I am on 3G? How can I check whether I am on Wifi or 3G? I was told it would automatically use WiFi.

Wifi Connectivity With 3rd-gen?

Mar 16, 2012

When setting up the new iPad, I'm invited to connect to a wifi network. I try the one my computer and iPhone are connected to. The iPad just spins... FWIW, I've recently updated my TimeCapsule and am using WPA2 personal security. The "pie" slice in the upper-left corner does light up, but the iPad never goes beyond the "Wifi" setup page. When I try to force it to move on, it asks "Do you want to continue without Wifi?" No! I also tried this on our corporate network. One of the SSIDs there did work - which is open without security. Our other SSID, that also uses WPA, had the same result. Why won't my new iPad work over wifi?

Wifi Connectivity Failure

Aug 19, 2010

I've had my Wifi iPad 32Gb since launch and have had Wifi connection problems since that launch day. I've had no problems initially connecting to my wireless network, the problem is that the connection seems to drop-out, i.e. it just stops working. It says it's connected, but it doesn't work It goes something like this: I will be merrily browsing in Safari and suddenly no web pages - on any websites I try - will load. I quit, and try Mail. It can't check my email either. Now, if I wait long enough (several minutes), the Wifi signal strength icon will flash off and then on again, and it will work again. Alternatively I can go into Settings and switch Wifi off and on again, and it will work fine.

Wifi Has Limited Connectivity

Sep 8, 2010

I have posted issues several times now without ever getting any answers. So here is the third attempt.WEP security, while not reliable at all due to the use of PSK, is required for bridging multiple AP's into a the central router. The passkey is passed into the PSK encryption routine and to create a minor level of protection, the encryption populates one of 4 keys. In windows when I connect to a WEP network the login screen provides the passkey and a field for identifying which key is being used. ISSUE: iPad login asks only for the passkey and NOT the key number. This is a bug and it seems the only way to get around this is to configure the router for key 1. Regardless this is a bug as the process should request which key to use.

IPad 2 Wifi Connectivity?

Mar 14, 2011

I got my iPad 2 on Friday and have been loving it so far but for iPad 2 owners, have any of you had an issue with your iPad where it says it has wifi connectivity and doesn't load web pages? I have an iPhone too and my phone constantly has connectivity but my iPad will intermittently stop connecting to the Internet. The only way I've found to fix the problem is to reset the iPad.

Anyway, long story short, has anyone else had problems with their iPad 2 losing connectivity nut still showing it's connected to the Internet.
