Jul 5, 2010Which position do you use your iPad most? I like portrait most, but I do wish the rotation switch was software because I don't like hardware switches.

View 24 Replieswhat would be an optimal resolution for viewing a video in the vertical position of the ipad? the movies i have converted so far are in a wide screen format and are pretty small in the vertical position with veryyyy large bars on the top and bottom. i know this is severely limiting the options available since movies are generally in a widescreen format which play great in the horizontal position.

View 1 RepliesAre there any cases like the Macally Bookstand that can be used a a stand in oth landscape and portrait? I know the Macally cn be used in portrait mode, however, from the pictures I have seen it stands with no angle whatsoever which, I think, makes reading (at the breakfast table for example) a little hard .
View 2 Repliesdo you find yourself holding it primarily in one orientation or the other?
View 15 RepliesWhich do you guys prefer? I set mine to landscape. It feels more natural vs. portrait mode.
View 19 RepliesI found it interesting yesterday when my wife and I were sitting next to each other with our iPads. I use mine almost entirely in landscape mode while she is almost always using hers in portrait mode. This made me wonder how do each of you use yours primarily. I understand certain apps may force you to be in one mode or another. But for general surfing, e-mail, etc., which way do you hold it?
View 8 RepliesI have found that I much prefer to use my iPad in landscape mode for a coupe of reasons. First, the keyboard seems a little bit easier to type on, and second, the Apple case I have when opened sets up nicely lifting the back an inch or so off my coffee table
View 14 RepliesPlease help. I downloaded the 4.2 update with no difficulty but immediately after, the physical slider switch on the top right edge of my iPad (above the volume rocker switch) no longer operates to lock the screen in the portrait or landscape mode. It now operates to mute the volume. How do I lock out the rotation of the screen.

View 2 RepliesI use my iPhone almost exclusively in portrait mode, and expected to do the same on the iPad, but now that I've actually got it, I find landscape mode much more satisfying to use.
View 6 RepliesWhich is the most natural way of holding the iPad for you? Of course it can vary depending on what you are doing, but which way feels right overall? I enjoy holding in Landscape so much for the first couple days I would try to hit an imaginy home button where it would be if it was placed for landscape.
View 4 RepliesAfter attempting to watch a video, the iPad stayed stuck in landscape mode. None of the following helped: turning on & off, attempting to sync, shaking it around, using different apps. I finally did a Reset All Settings and it put the device back in portrait mode but now stuck there. Since all else has failed, I am about to do a Restore. information: iPhone OS 3.1.3 ipad
View 2 Repliesthe iPad has a nasty habit of sometimes switching modes. I would like to lock the mode until I unlock it. I have looked through Settings and did not find a "lock" key. Information: Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9)
View 2 Repliesso i'm an apple user and an industrial designer and have been playing around with 3D printing. So i came up w/ a simple design to at least protect the corners and back of my ipad. I've received the 1st print of my initial design and have been using it for 2 weeks now. http://jbaredesign.squarespace.com/d...-received.html i've tweaked a couple issues and have been making a list of features I'd like to see in it that i can add down the road.such as:-kick stand- maybe 2 angles- i see the need for a low angle for typing (landscape only) and a higher angle for viewing - (landscape & portrait both if possible)-magnets, i could see the use of integrating magnets on the four corners of the back so i can throw this up on the fridge maybe when i'm cooking, or at work it should stick to the metal cubical wal anybody else like this magnet idea?
View 3 RepliesI was typing something out for class during my free hour, and when I turned the iPad from landscape to portrait so I could use Underline (currently there is no toolbar showing up in landscape) it magically deleted half of what I had written. It wasn't TOO much stuff but it wasted like 8 minutes easily, and i was in a time crunch....
I remember when I just loaded up the app I had shaken my iPad (i guess?) because an Undo button popped up from moving it. The iPad brushed against my chest during the procedure, and maybe clicked the Undo button??
edit: Oh yeah, there is an Undo, but no Redo, so be careful when you press it.
I also just installed the newest update, and find that my iPad no longer switches between Portrait and Landscape. It is stuck on Portrait. I have already checked, and my side switch is set to Mute. I tried switching it to landscape lock option (whatever it's called) and switched it back to Mute mode. Rebooted, turned off and on, still no fix. Is anyone else familiar with this? Any easy fix to this issue?

iPad, iOS 5.1.1
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that only screen shots taken in portrait can be viewed normally in the camera roll? If I take a shot in landscape it displays in portrait when I'm holding the iPad in landscape and vice verse. When I tilt to one or the other, it changes to the opposite so that it's never correct. Shots taken in portrait can be viewed correctly in either aspect. Not a particularly important issue, I know. But a little weird nonetheless.

View 19 RepliesIf you print a landscape PDF file through the Airprint function there is no options to print Portait vs. landscape. This shrinks the document considerable and can make it unreadable. Is there any way to rotate this item prior to printing? Is there an airprint setting to always print the pdf's based on their orientation? Information: Ipad iOS 4
