Any ideas on how to keep the iPad screen from going to sleep due to inactivity? I want to use it as a calendar on my desk, but it doesn't do much good if I can't see the screen after a few minutes.
If the iPad has slept for a while, and I open up the smart cover, it will sometimes come to life with a dimmed screen. As soon as I touch it, normal brightness is resumed. I can't consistently recreate this - I think it has to have been asleep for a while, and I think it only happens with the smart cover.

IPad 2 Shows Blank Screen On Pressing Home Button In Sleep Mode
Jul 24, 2012
When I press the home button of my iPad 2 in sleep mode, it shows blank screen. I need to turn off my iPad and press the home again to view the original home screen. How can I avoid this issue?
I know that I can set the iPad to "auto lock" in the settings but how do I manually set it to go to sleep and darken the screen on demand? Is there a "sleep button" somewhere that i'm missing?
After using an App made specifically for the iPad and then try to turn off/put my iPad to sleep, it does not react at all. If I then start an App which was designed for the iPhone, then pressing the button on the top of the iPad leads directly to the iPad switching to sleep mode.
This does not happen with all iPad apps. Any ideas?
I went to my Apple Tech Support people and they got my I Pad up and running. The head of tech support there said I should just leave the I Pad in sleep mode and don't have to turn it off. I've been reading different forums and there seems to be differences in what people think.
can I keep it in sleep mode? or must I shut it down?

Yes, Printopia works flawlessly in printing wirelessly through Air Print off the iPad. EXCEPT when your Mac goes to sleep! Then Air Print and Printopia don't connect.
Do we have to live with this, or else keep the Mac on all the time (not very green), and never allow it to go to sleep automatically? A bit disappointing.
Since I updated my iPad (which worked flawless since it's June purchase) to IOS 4.2.1, I am having issues with sleep mode. Often when the it comes out of sleep mode, it is in recovery mode and will not wake using the normal method. The only options I have to get it to start is either reboot (hold down on & home) or connect to a computer and let it detect the iPad in recovery mode and restore. Is anyone out there experiencing this?
I have tried everything, even inspected everything from the mic hole, headphone jack, speaker grill, dock connector, etc. no evidence of water damage, dust etc. my ipad wont awake from sleep, or turn on for that matter. I also put 4.2 on there, so do you think the 4.2 dev software beta bricked it?
I just received a brand new iPad for my birthday yesterday. Unfortunately, it does not appear that my Wake/Sleep button responds to my touch. I have tried pressing it once as well as pressing it and holding it down. Neither attempt worked, however.
