How To Make And Do Sync/backup?
Nov 28, 2010
I have had the iPad for a few months now. Today I read that ios 4.2 was out, so attempted to connect it to my Mac for the first time to carry out the upgrade (until now I've been content to download Apps through the Apps store and all has been fine)Anyway to cut a long story short after connecting to iTunes the Apps have transferred over to my library fine, but on attempting the upgrade it just sits at Backing up.... for hours with the status bar about 5% complete and never moving.any ideas welcome

How To Make A Fast Backup/Sync?
Dec 6, 2010
I've seen a number of posts here about extremely slow backup/sync speeds and may have stumbled across the answer in one of them. I'm posting this in hopes of saving people with similar issues time when searching (and because I can't bring myself to post a "this worked for me" response to all of the threads I found on the issue). My iPad seemed to be taking forever to backup and sync. It would eventually finish, but it was a go make myself a pot of coffee while it updates the 2 podcasts that are new kind of thing. Really irritating.
I didn't realize that I had been using the sync cable that came with my 1st Gen iPhone. It's universal, right?Apparently, not. When I swapped out the old cable with the new one, it flew through the sync. How to tell the difference (at least on mine): The USB connector on the old one has sharp corners. The corners on the new one are rounded. That's the only difference I can see, but it made all the difference in the world.

How To Make Zinio App Fast Backup And Sync?
Jul 4, 2010
From reading the thread on slow backup and sync, many people seem to find that the culprit is the Zinio app - does anyone have the Zinio app loaded and active, with several magazines, and NOT have slow backup and sync?
I really enjoy this app and I'd be sorry to ditch it, but 30-60 minute backup and sync is ridiculous....

How To Make Fast Backup To Mac (mac Only)?
Sep 10, 2010
I read through a lot of other threads on this topic, but most of the responses seem to be related to Windows computers. My iPad always backed up and synched fine. Recently, I have been doing work with digital magazine publishing, so I downloaded the Wired Magazine application and a few issues. I also purchased a few other digital magazines. I need to look into this for my job.I'm not sure when, but suddenly I could leave the iPad connected for hours on end in "Backing up ipad" and I'll always need to cancel it, since I eventually need to use the **** thing, or leave for work.I also have an iPhone 4, and that backs up in seconds, even though there are many more gigs of apps, music, and photos on the phone than the iPad (which has 1.85 gb of apps and no music or photos).I am using the new cable, the same cable, computer, and usb port as the phone but only the phone backs up successfully. This is getting quite ridiculous.Have any other Mac 10.6 users run into this, and have you solved anything? The various threads about deleting apps to find a "bad app" are silly; all the apps on there I need, and data is data. If the phone can back up over 4 gb in 30 seconds, the iPad should be able to back up less than half that in less than 24 hours, no?

How To Make Fast Backup?
Sep 16, 2010
I got a brand new iPad the other day, and when I first turned it on and activated it I downloaded a few apps. The main app I've been using is MangaDL to read manga on the go (comics). Last night, before sleeping I tried my first sync/backup and now when I wakeup it's still not done!!! This is absolutely not right. I barely even have 2GB worth of things inside the iPad!Now I've read other forum posts about slow backup speeds... but as soon as it gets technical it seems everyone is talking about Windows. Just as a note, I'm using Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I just upgraded from Tiger 2 days ago.

How To Make Fast To Backup And Restore?
Sep 24, 2010
Plugged my iPad in with the intention to try out iOS 4.2. First of all the backup either took a very long time (about 20 minutes) or just froze. Finally got it to back up and first tried restoring to 3.2.2 and even that took ages. Updated the OS as quick as usual but now it's taking forever to restore my data onto it. And it's not even started copying apps, music and videos yet.About 15 minutes into the restore and it's only just requested access to my email information, and just started installing apps too.Is my iPad broken? =/

How To Make Fast Backup? Taking Hours
Nov 10, 2010
I've switched over to a new compuer and I'm not able to complete a backup. Last night I plugged the iPad in and 6 hours later, it still shows 'Sync in Progress' and iTunes is still on step 1 of 3 (Backing up).The only thing I've found is to shut off the backup on the Zinio app. I've done that, but get the same response.
I've cancelled the back up and the sync continues, but then I get a message that the iPad is disconnected and the back up does not complete.I want to be ready for the iOS 4.2 update and need to get this solved!Any options?? (Also, the iPad shows 'Not Charging' when I'm attempting the sync, is this normal?)

IPad Air :: How To Make Backup Of Kindle Magazines
May 23, 2014
I have an iPad Air and an amazon kindle. I get kindle magazines which I can read on my ipad with a kindle app.
Last time I updated my iOS it wiped away all the downloaded files in my kindle app. How do I back-up these kindle magazines? Can I do it to the iCloud? I need a back-up because the amazon cloud only keeps magazines in it for 7 months.
Note I can't just plug my kindle in and copy the files directly because I believe it uses a different format file than my iPad. On monochrome kindle the magazines are .azw but on IPad I believe they are full color .kF8 files.

IPad 4 :: How To Make Complete Backup From All Contents Stored
Sep 10, 2013
Is it possible to make a complete backup from all contents stored in ipad 4? In the event I lose my ipad or am forced to exchange the battery and Apple sends me a new equipment, will I be able to do a complete backup and later reinsert those same contents?
I am talking about:
- all contents stored in Ibooks. I have 23 GB there;
- all from other apps such as tdownloader and ipad's "videos" (can't think of anything else, maybe browsers favorite list?)
And I have never purchased any app from app store. But let's assume I do that. Will I be able to make a copy for safety reasons from that app or download again using my login (email) and password currently being used in this ipad in the new one? Are there any risks of having to pay again for the same app?

Cannot Make Initial Sync With PC?
Jun 6, 2010
I have seen a number of other posts regarding people having issues with syncing, but everyone has made it further than I have as far as I have read. When I initially plugged my Ipad into my PC out of the box it loaded the OS on and then started to sync, after a moment I got an error stating the my ipad had timed out, then three other errors saying that it could not write to the device. It shows my ipad as a device but with a 4 gig capacity. I did a restory and tried to sync with a different USB port as suggested in a number of other posts. Gets a bit further this time, recognizes a 29.04gb capcity, but still says it times out and the other errors as well. The Ipad operates ok (aside from not seeing the whole drive), but when i try to sync any apps or files i get other errors stating that the "required disk cannot be found" and "an error occured while writing to the device".
I have a 32gb Ipad wi-fi and windows 7 64bit OS. I just downloaded Itunes today so my version is current.
Information:
Ipad 32g
iPhone OS 3.1.3

Non-sync Backup
Jun 5, 2010
Hi, ok maybe a stupid question, but here goes. I never use my computer anymore. I do fine with my iPad and my iTouch. Not only that but I don't even want to use my computer! It's slow, etc. Anyway I bought a subscription to Mobile Me thinking I could use that as a backup alternate to syncing on my computer but now I find that Mobile Me doesn' really act like a backup, won't store some things like Pages documents unless I email them to myself, etc.
So my question is , what alternative, if any, is there to my old, clunky computer with iTunes on it can I use as a type of cloud or other backup location for my iPad, or any hardware available? I hate using my computer anymore. Thanks

Make Move To Iphone To Sync With It?
Jun 1, 2011
So I take my tech seriously. I received an iPad last November for my birthday and quickly took to it. I have long been sold on Apple and have a Mac at home along with a bunch of PC's. I have a Blackberry tour and will make the iPhone switch, just not sure when“ just do it or wait for the 5?
A few more are the iPad I have is an ATT, and I am on Verizon. I would rather stay on VER for phone; can I switch without having to get the Mifi? The iPad is the biggest capacity with WIFI and Data although I have not activated the data. Can I tether as opposed to getting VER bill for phone and ATT bill if I activate the data for iPad?Also when synching iPad and iPhone, can I choose which files move to the iPhone? I have 50+ Gigs on the iPad and dont need everything on the iphone.

Make ITunes NOT Sync RAW Images?
Apr 18, 2012
I take a lot of pictures with my Canon DSLR and have it set to save as both RAW and JPEG. I typically copy them to a folder in my "My Pictures" folder.
I've recently been syncing my iPad (and iPhone 4S) with iTunes to show these pictures to my friends, and when I choose a folder to sync with my device, it syncs all pictures. This means that I essentialyl have two copies of each picture on my iDevice, one from the RAW and one from the JPEG.
Is there any way to tell iTunes to ignore or not sync the RAW images, to avoid the time and space of duplication?
Info:iPad, iOS 5.1, Windows 7 x64

Sync Backup Too Slow
Apr 15, 2010
I'm on my second unit now. I have about 15 gigs of data on mine. I started the backup last night at 9:30 PM, it's now 5:15 AM and the backup is less than 50% complete. I'll try it on a different machine tonight (this one is Vista Ultimate 64-bit), but I had the same problem with my original iPad on three different boxes (two PC, one Mac). I've got about 2.5 gigs of music, 9 gigs of comic books in ComicZeal, and 3 gigs in Apps (mostly PDFs for PDFReader HD).
