Handbrake Keeps Crashing

May 4, 2010

I'm running it on two computers, a laptop with W7 64bit and and a desktop with 32 bit W7 and am trying to convert MKV files created by MakeMKV. Doesn't seem to matter what output format I select. Does Handbrake have problems with W7?

All About Handbrake.

Apr 15, 2010

So a few days ago, here in the this iPad sub-forum I read up on Handbrake and absolutely love it. With Handbrake i've managed to get the ".dvdmedia" files that are under my Movies folder on my Mac, and have been able to convert the movie in question to a file that goes directly into my iTunes and hence directly into my iPad. Heaven.

*Disclaimer:I don't wanna turn this thread into anything illegal about ripping illegal movies and whatnot. I just wanna address and hopefully resolve the following:

My MBP has a good amount of movies, both family home filmed movies from my Flip Mino HD and also some DVD's I personally own. When I got these films onto my Mac the only program I knew of and could easily use was "RipIt" so the entire DVD in question was ripped. (Straight to the point) The reason I'm posting this here now is cause just about every "Rip" is eating up about 5GB-7GB's of space on my Mac, while i'm sure the movie itself should be no more than 2GBs.

My current process has been to use RipIt and then that .dvdmedia file goes through Handbrake, which tosses it out to iTunes and then finally to my iPad...but why not cut the middlemen out?

Example #1; Right now I have say "Back To The Future 4: Marty's Revenge" as a .dvdmedia on my MBP worth 7GBs. Then another 2GB's are created just for the movie when I use Handbrake; but I wouldn't mind just having one 2GB BTTF4 in iTunes so I could view it on my MBP and/or iPad.

How can I go about this?

I sure do hope the solution wouldn't be to use RipIt, then w/ the .dvdmedia file go through Handbrake to iTunes then delete the original .dvdmedia file.

Use Handbrake All By Itself To Rip Dvd's & VLC?

Mar 17, 2011

I'm brand new at trying to get dvd's on my iPad. My question is....Do I need to have VLC and handbrake together or can I use handbrake all by itself to rip my dvd's? And if I need VLC, do I need to have it open while using handbrake?

Handbrake MP4 Files And The PS3

May 25, 2010

I've been using Handbrake to convert my DVD's to MP4 for use on my IPad using the AppleTV setting. The files work on the IPad very nicely but for some reason the PS3 won't see them.I have the files on a D-Link DNS-323 NAS with the UPnP AV Server setup. The PS3 finds the server and all of the files on it with the exception of the MP4 files. It sees MKV files (thought it reports they are unsupported), AVI, WMA, etc. but does not see the MP4 files and nothing I do makes them visible

Using Handbrake For Converting?

May 11, 2010

I'm trying to recode a blue Ray rip that is in h.264 format. I have got this to work on a bunch of DVD rips but for some reason with the blue Ray I'm getting video that does not have sound then another 4 hours of sound without video. In other words the sound and video are there but they are not overlapping. The video plays fine in iTunes before trying to convert it to iPad format. Even happens when i try to encode it to apple tv. Any ideas?

Handbrake Settings

Apr 28, 2010

I really feel like I am doing something wrong converting my videos to iPad format as I have never been a big iTouch/iTunes user so I am new to this. I am using Vista to convert.

1. I am starting off with the Apple > Apple TV preset.

2. Right now I am not adjusting the aspect ratio at all. I am keeping it at whatever the original settings are...most of them seem to be around 500-600 by 200-300. Should I increase the width to 1024? The reason I haven't been so far is because it seems like if I double the width or whatnot that it would be no different than the iPad auto resizing it when it plays. Can someone advise on this? Everything else under the "Picture" tab is untouched.

3. Video filters tab is stock with everything turned off.

4. Video tab is H.264, Framerate is same as source, and constant quality of 63%...when you hover over it says sane values max out there, should I increase that?

5. All the other tabs I left alone.

The reason I think I'm doing something wrong is the files are coming out smaller than the original. Most of the originals are between 7-1000MB whereas these are coming out at 4-600MB.

I have Googled tons of threads on this and yet haven't found a great, universal answer yet. I imagine that is because the iPad is new and Handbrake is still working on an iPad preset.

Windows Vista

Doing Setting With Handbrake?

May 13, 2010

Tried search, no avail.

I've read here that the best preset to use is the AppleTV setting on handbrake to encode dvd's for the iPad. I converted it, everything went fine, but I receive an error message on iTunes that says the file can't be played on the iPad The only setting I changed was the video codec to MPEG-4 from the H.264 because I've read it was faster with a smaller video size. Is this where the problem is?

Having A Handbrake Problem.

Jun 20, 2010

I'm trying to put movies on my iPad. First I used Mac the Ripper to get the movie onto my computer. I can see that file and when I use the DVD player to play it... it works. Now I'm trying to use Handbrake to encode it and when I do so, it only takes 2 seconds and then it is done. Clearly that is not long enough b/c when I view the file in iTunes it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

Movies On With Handbrake?

To watch movies on your iPad, do you need to do anything special for them to look good? I use the normal Apple TV preset. Can I just use that and sync my movies to it?

May 23, 2010

I've been looking EVERYWHERE in handbrake looking for I can increase the picture size to 1024x768, but it will not let me go any higher than 608x336. Here are a few screenies for Mac users who might get confused.
The Windows version of Handbrake is very different from the Mac version and also seems to be missing a few settings from the Mac versions.

Best Handbrake Setting?

Sep 30, 2010

I used the Apple TV setting in Handbrake and vids will not sync to the iPod (they will sync to the ipad).
I then used the "Convert to iPod" setting in iTunes to get vids to my iPod.So, I'm converting twice (and Handbrake already takes like 10hrs to do 1 DVD) What setting in Handbrake will give me good video I can use on both iPad & iPod without sacrificing too much quality?

Handbrake Cannot Rip DVD To IPad 3?

Apr 1, 2012

Recently Ive decided to backup my DVD collection with the intent on converting the main movie into H264, MP4 for easy playback of the film on my new iPad (iPad3). I have had success with a few movies so the process seems ok, but it doesnt with some other. Ive been using Handbrake to load the dvd folder, I select the whole movie, then choose the output file format, MP4 files, H264 codec. Heres what gets me, sometimes Ill get the movie in two parts, one is always about 2.0gb and the other part is a few hundred Megabytes.

Using HandBrake To Rip DVDs For It?

Jul 9, 2011

I have an original version ipad and have been told about using Handbrake to convert DVDs to save to my itunes and play on it. This a brilliant program, but I seem to have problems with certain DVDs. Some convert perfectly and play perfectly and others completely pixilate when they are converted. Is there something I need to change in my setting to get Handbrake to work when converting all DVDs?

1. Does this happen to every bought DVD if you are ripping it?

2. how can I stop the downloaded movie becoming pixelated and fuzzy?

3.will I get into trouble for ripping a bought DVD?

4. Finally would it be due to me having the laptop on my lap while downloading the movie to handbrake and me slightly moving around (only say that as I have burnt CDs before and if laptop moves while burning they come up dodgy)?

Universal Setting For Handbrake?

Aug 7, 2010

I used the universal setting in Handbrake to rip a DVD. After loading it on the iPad, I noticed that the width is off. I believe the output file is 720X480. Is there anyway to increase the width so there aren't any vertical black bars?
