Facetime Kills My Internet Connection - Black Screen - Says It Failed And My Internet Dies

Mar 11, 2011

So trying to FaceTime my brother's iPhone4, and everytime it connects, I just see a black screen, and then it says it failed, and my internet dies. Not just on my iPad, but my desktop (which is hooked up via ethernet) and my iPhone wifi die as well. If I DON'T do FaceTime, internet runs fine!

Wifi Internet Connection Failed?

Jun 24, 2010

I combed through the forum to see if anyone else has reported this issue. WOW, I was surprised at the wide range of general Wifi problems. Although many, many wifi issues are listed, I did not find a post already listing one.

My Wifi seems to work great on first glance, but when using the iPad for more than 5 minutes the issue becomes noticeable. This occurs while doing pretty much anything. I notice it the most when web surfing and reading books in iBooks. The wifi signal indicator in the status bar drops off to nothing, usually just for 10 seconds or so, then it reconnects. Sometimes it takes longer and at which time a little blue dialog box appears that says "Connecting..." Then it connects and life goes on. Rince and repeat 5-10 minutes later.

Now, I have a feeling it might be something with my Airport Base Station Extreme (ABSE) and here is why: My wife also has an iPad, and the same thing happens to her. It's not an extremely old ABSE, as it is "Extreme" running 7.4.2. I have tried several different settings on the ABSE including reverting to default settings and simply setting it up again with the most basic settings.

So, I am unsure if this problem is caused by the iPad or the ABSE, but either way, it is annoying. Was just wondering if others had experienced this and how they may have solved it. Judging by the wide range of serious wifi issues listed on this forum, it seems to be that Apple has some serious work to do on Wifi in general and maybe all these issues will be resolved in an update.

Internet Down After Failed Facebook Invitation Export

Jul 10, 2010

Something strange has happened. I was on Facebook through my wi-fi connection at home. For events on facebook, you can export an event to your calendar. I tried to do this on my ipad, but it would not download. Now, my internet does not work, I can't get to any web site using my ipad. My internet works fine on my laptop. According to my ipad I'm connected to my wi-fi network, signal strength is good. I've tried clearing my cache, history and cookies, even changing DNS servers, and finally turning my ipad off and back on, all to no avail. Please help. Btw the DNS server that I put in is the same one configured on my laptop and router. iPad Wi-Fi

Facetime Kills Its Gestures On IPad 2?

Mar 21, 2011

So I did the xcode trick to enable gestures on my iPad 2. I've been using them for days without a hitch. I haven't used Facetime on my iPad since enabling the gestures, but today I did. Once I brought up Facetime on my iPad 2, the gestures stopped working, even after I exited out of Facetime. All gestures stopped working, even though they were still enabled in the settings. I tried toggling the gestures off and back on with the setting, but that did not re-enable them. The only thing that worked was a reboot. Has anyone else noticed this or is this a unique problem to my unit?EDIT: Very strange. It seems there is a VERY unique combination of events via Facetime that causes this to occur on my iPad. If I just open Facetime on the iPad, the gestures continue to work. And even if I MAKE a Facetime call FROM my iPad to another device, it works fine. It's only when another device calls ME on my iPad that the gestures stop working. As soon as the call comes in and it asks me to accept or decline, the gestures stop working....

Installation Failed Displaying Black Screen

Nov 11, 2010

Wanting to sync my iPad to my WinXP (all updates installed), I started iTunes and received the 'New iTunes version, download?' pop-up to install 10.0.1.22. I said yes and iTunes downloaded and installed uneventfully. So now that iTunes was up to date I plugged in my 64Gb WiFi+3G iPad to sync and received the 'New iPad software, download?' pop-up and I said yes. The next dialog cautioned me to sync/backup first, so I used the exit button to perform the sync/backup first.

The iPad would never sync always getting toward the end of the process (step 5 of 6) and then stop and pop-up a dialog box saying 'Unable to sync'. After disconnecting, restarting the computer and the iPad, still got the same result. I did notice that an app I bought on my iPad was now showing up in my desktop iTunes Library Apps listing, so part of the sync worked even though it was saying it failed to sync. I tried rebooting both devices again and received the same error at the end of the sync attempt. I disconnected the iPad and notice that I now had no music in my iPad 's iPod app (previously about 25 GB of music). I read on this apple forum that folks resolved similar issues by ensuring the iPad was fully charged, so I plugged it in overnight to the AC charger and with the batter at 98% attempted a sync again the next morning.

I plugged it in and got the same sync error at the end of the sync process. Since I knew the latest app I bought was synced to the desktop iTunes, rather than continue failing to sync I elected to try the iPad 3.2.2 update thinking that they sync error might be an iTunes/iPad software mismatch. It started to perform the iPad software update and late in the process presented a pop-up that6 said it failed to install the update and indicated I had to perform a 'Restore'. Knowing that if I did this I was basically blowing away several months of tuning the device and entering personal data to get it to work the way I wanted, but I saw I had no other option, so I selected 'Restore' and resigned myself to countless hours of tweaking to get the device back like I want it. But then the 'Restore' failed.

It downloaded the restore software in the iTunes window on the desktop and then presented an installation thermometer on the iPad that showed the installation progress. It progressed normally until after the 'Verifying Software' stage and then a pop-up saying installation failed. I saved the install log and can send it, but here is the text at the point of failure:

The volume Data appears to be OK.

executing /sbin/mount_hfs
disk0s2s1: ioctl(_IOW,'d',24,4) is unsupported.
entering install_kernel_cache
recv(7, 6744603) failed: connection closed
unable to read message: -1
unable to get kernelcache data from host
attempting to dump restore log
writing log file: /mnt1/restore.log

And repeated attempts to perform the restore have not worked. I've tried everything on the Apple support page titled: Update and restore alert messages on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

So now I have an iPad displaying the Black Screen of Death, basically an $800 paperwight.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Wifi Internet Connection Using Camera Connection Kit + 3G USB Modem

Aug 9, 2010

I have a jailbroken iPad wifi (non 3G) and I've recently bought the camera connection kit which has a USB port (which supposedly detects/connects to even non-camera devices like USB keyboards, USB flash drives, etc).

I was wondering if it would be possible to attach a 3G USB modem/data card and make the Internet work without wifi? The 3G data card otherwise requires a bare-minimum wvdial from a normal Linux terminal.

1. Can I get/install the wvdial .deb package on my jail broken iPad?

2. If I can get the package, will this work (wvdial detecting and using the USB modem and connecting through it?), or is it too far out?

Unable To Share Internet Connection - Waiting For Connection?

May 7, 2010

I have a mobile broadband connection (Verizon) on my notebook. I am running Windows 7 Premium (32bit). I would like to connect to the internet using the broadband card and then use the wifi connection in the notebook to create a hotspot so I can connect with my iPad and share the broadband connection.

I have set up the adhoc connection and I can get the iPad to see the connection. (having some problems with the password) but on the Windows side, it just says waiting for connection.I know this can be done. It must be some security setting some place.Any ideas greatly appreciated

Facetime Black Screen?

Mar 13, 2011

My girlfriend and I try to facetime while she's at her place but the window where her face is supposed to be is just a black screen. When i took a look at her actual iPad, it seems that when facetime is running, the image on the iPad is frozen but the person on the other end is visible. We took it to apple and of course they just restored it, it worked but now the same problem has come back. We're not blocking the camera hole, we've rebooted the unit and both of the cameras are working in the 'photobooth' and camera apps. Do you guys think it could be an internet connectivity issue?
