Exchanging Hard Books For Soft IBooks
Oct 17, 2010
Has the idea been risen of providing discounts to people who already own a book, but would prefer to ditch the hard cover for a soft iBook version? I believe Apple should offer this program, even if they are required to verify the ownership in an Apple Store. I know I would love to ditch all of my hard books, if this program was available. The same may also be true for iTunes with people owning hard DVDs, etc.

Exchanging Tax And IBooks
Jun 15, 2010
Figured I'd combine them into one.I just purchased my brand new iPad on Friday while I was home for the weekend in tax-free NH. Score, right? Well, not so much--I noticed one stuck pixel last night. I wouldn't ordinarily complain, but it's bright green and stands out on my wallpaper, and I really like my wallpaper, and if I'm paying $500 for it you better bet your behind I'm going to do my best to get a perfect one. So yeah.Anyways I'm back in NY with the horrendous 9% sales tax, and I made an appointment to get the iPad even exchanged (since I'm still within the 14 day policy). My question is as such: when I return it, with the receipt, within the 14 days, will I be required to pay sales tax on the new iPad? Common sense says no, but the evil wanna-be lawyer in my head is leaning towards "You're screwed." I don't really have $50 to be dropping on sales tax, not when I just spent $500 on the foolish thing.

IBooks - Gutenberg Books - And Google Books
Apr 3, 2010
If you followed the news about the iPad, then you know about the iBooks app and store. You may also know that by supporting the EPUB format for books, Apple has given all iBooks users access to not only the tens of thousands of commercial ebooks sold with Fairplay DRM, but also to any DRM-free ebook in the EPUB format. We have already heard about the 30,000+ Gutenberg books that will be included within the iBookstore. What I haven't seen mentioned all that much is the over a million public domain books Google has available in EPUB (link).

IBooks App Having A Hard Time With Over 100 PDF's
Jul 22, 2010
We generate a lot of PDF's for work for client examples, etc. these are very visual, each PDF is about 15-25 megs. I have about 100 PDFs loaded on my iPad and what i have found is that as I load more, they seem to take longer & longer to "show up" on the iPad.I copy them across via iTunes manually, but inside ibooks they do NOT immediately show up in the PDF listing. It's like ibooks is.... sorting them out, processing them, I dunno the right word. At first when I had less than 100, it might take 1-2 minutes of just leaving iBooks open & then "presto" they would show up in the title listing.

Books VS IBooks
Apr 17, 2010
The iTunes Store is cheaper and you can enjoy immediate purchase! But I still buy books. I got about 200 books. For those here who read a lot of books, would you even consider leaving the physical books to only read ebooks on the iPad?
I could see so many advantages in ebooks (called iBooks) on the iPad:
- Immediate purchase,
- Cheaper price,
- Being able to have all my books when I travel,
- Not having to transport heavy boxes of books when I move in a new house,
- The instant dictionnary,
- Searching content,
- Bookmars in color!
The biggest complain is, of course, that reading on a screen is not that good compared to reading a real book. And reading outside (at the beach and/or in a sunny environment) should be far better with an actual book.

Any Way To Get Kindle Books Into IBooks?
Apr 23, 2010
If you *only* have the Kindle app, and not an actual Kindle, is there any way whatsoever to get to the files of the books you have purchased? I want to legitimately purchase some ebooks from Amazon, but I don't like the Kindle app's inability to change the font style (and other stuff). Where are those files actually stored? After some reading it seems like if you have a physical Kindle you can download the files themselves from your Amazon account page directly to your computer, but I get the sense that's not true if you only have the app. And when I look at the free ebooks I've 'bought' from Amazon on my account page, the only option is to deliver them to the iPad.

IBooks Tossed My Books
Sep 18, 2010
I started my iPad yesterday, and opened iBooks. My books were there momentarily, and then they all vanished, right before my eyes. I have no idea why. This is iBooks 1.1.2 (199)
There were six books, all free ones, all downloaded from the iBooks store; Winnie-The-Pooh, the iPad manual, a Jane Austen, a Henry James, The Iliad, etc.
On looking at my iBook Purchases, though, they were all still recorded, and appeared with 'Redownload' beside each one.
However, only Winnie-The-Pooh would do this; all the others came up with 'Unknown Error'.
