The only time I really find myself cursing at the iPad is when I do a lot of typing, like now, and the auto-correct can't keep up.
So often I have to go back and fix the letter "I" because it's lowercase. I think because I can type pretty fast, it just cant keep up and misses things, like auto-capitalizing a stand-alone "I".
What's with correcting correct words? Occasionally it randomly just corrects a word that is already correct, changing it to some completely different word!
And often, the suggestions are so off-base it's laughable. A good example is the word "I've"... I type ive and it wants to correct it to vie, not I've.
The random capitalization in the middle of a sentence drives me nuts... It seems to occur most when you try to go back and correct something...
Am i alone? Does it drive anyone else just a little bit crazy?
Auto Correct Option Still Work On American Dictionary?
May 25, 2010
I've had my iPad for about 3 weeks now and there's one little annoyance I have with it. I have my keyboard/language/etc set to English United Kingdom, but the autocorrect will still insist on the American spelling (for example "Realize") then it'll underline it as a spelling error without a correction suggestion
It also likes to autocorrect "ive" to "vie" and not "I've" but that's down to me being lazy! Any other Brits noticed weird goings on with the autocorrect on the iPad, or have I missed a setting somewhere?
Auto Capitalisation And Auto-correct No Longer Working
Nov 27, 2011
I am trying to use the Apple wireless keyboard with Pages on the iPad and I am wondering if anyone is able to provide some assistance with some issues i'm having?
When using the Apple wireless keyboard with Pages, auto capitalisation and auto-correct no longer work as it would if using the inbuilt onscreen virtual keyboard. This is not a major issue, more of an annoyance.
Does anyone know how I can change this? Either changing settings in Pages or maybe using a different word processor which does auto-correct and auto-capitalise using the bluetooth wireless keyboard?
Ever since I upgraded to 4.2 my iPad has started auto-correcting my email address to unloaded at me dot Com which is not correct at all... Every time I try to log in or sign up anywhere it does it so if I am going to quickly I don't even notice it until it's too late... It never did this in 3.2 and does not do it on my iPhone which is 4.1. Has anybody else noticed this and more importantly does anybody know of a fix?
Is this stupidity limited to 4.2.1, or was it always present. I want to enable spell check but to disable autocorrect. The system does not allow this, as when I enavle spell check, then disable autocorrect, spell ckeck then gets set to off! This is retarted and absurd. Spell check by itself should simple put a red underline on a word that spellcheck does not like. When the user taps on the word, suggestions should be available. I can't stand when programs or devices think that they are smarter than I am.
I did a Google search, and a search here first, and it seems like it's true. But a small annoyance, that there is no autocorrect on the iPad when paired with a bluetooth keyboard. Seems silly when this basic functionality has been added to the Mac with OSX Lion. I didn't notice this at first until recently when I started to realize that I still make a few mistakes due to the keyboard on the solar keyboard folio being a little cramped.
Does anyone know how to alter the auto-correct options? I keep on trying to type the word "as" in a sentence and auto-correct keeps on replacing it with "A's". So frustrating since that's a frequent word that I use.
I'm wondering if there is a way that I can put in words that I don't think auto correct has in its dictionary (I am in the sciences, and it's really annoying when it changes alkanes to Alan's, as an example). Is there a way to give it words, or do I just have to suck it up and let it learn when I correct it?
Is It Possible To Switch Off The Auto-correct But Keep The Spell Checker?
Sep 11, 2010
I generally find the iPad's auto-correct feature counter-productive - it usually picks am unwanted word, which then needs to be retyped - but obviously being able to spell check emails is very useful. However the two features seem to go hand in hand; is it possible to switch off the auto-correct feature, without losing the ability to do spell checking?
As often as not people are going to be searching for proper names of people, streets, businesses, etc.On the iPad we are more likely to be using a keyboard -- typing the term quickly and hitting 'return.'I am continually finding myself at a useless results page because the spell check 'corrected' my 'mistake' for me in the split-second between finishing typing and pressing return.I understand the usefulness of this feature globally.
Is There Any Way To Stop Auto Correct Of Words In An IPad?
May 13, 2012
Whenever i start writing some text, it disturbs me and everytime it tries to correct the errors even when you don't commit any mistake which is very annoying so please give me any way to stop this functionality of an iPad?
I accidentally typed my email address incorrectly ONCE and now every time I start to type my email, iPad tries to change it to that incorrect address! I cleared cache, cookies, and history and turned off Autofill in Safari, but it still keeps popping up! Can anything be done to stop this before I tear my hair out? I've tried ignoring it, but when I hit return to get to the next field in a form, it enters the bad address.
IPad 2 :: Way Of Making Particular Email Address Of Mine Default Choice For Auto-correct?
Oct 11, 2011
Is there a way of making a particular email address of mine the default choice for autocorrect? Currently whenever I start typing an address in it defaults to my work address. Hitting the x button is tricky as it's small and even then, as my work address is similar to my personal one, it then tries to add it again. I end up with something like xxxx@ xxxxx@ xxxxxx.com I use my personal address far more than the work one and it's first in my address book whereas my work one is third.
Has anyone out there had any experience using a removable car mount - probably the sucker cup variety or a seat rail connector? I need a mount but I use one of about a dozen different cars each week and they are a variety of makes and models so a specific car/model fit wont work for me.
I recently got caught in a little bit of a dust up with AT&T. When you sign up for a data plan on the iPad you automatically sign up for monthly auto-renewal. As far as I can see, there is no other option -- i.e. you cannot just sign up for 1 month. If you mean to sign up for only one month, then you have to go BACK into the settings later and change your account so it is NOT auto-renewal. If you do not (as happened to me because I did not realize that I had signed up for auto-renewal in the first place) you will get a notification from ATT that they have auto-renewed about two days before the new month comes into play.
