Lgo To Sleep Mode The Same As Pushing The Power Button?

Apr 10, 2010

if this question has been covered elsewhere already but it's one of those which is somewhat obscure and difficult to find unless it's asked straight up.Regarding power consumption, when you let the iPad "go to sleep" on it's own after a few minutes versus putting it to sleep deliberately by pushing the button, is there any real difference?Basically from my observations it seems that the iPad still consumes power when it goes to sleep on it's own, but I'm not really sure so I thought I'd ask some more experienced iPadders.

The Sleep / Wake Button Or Lock / Unlock Button?

Jul 31, 2010

You know, that button on the top right edge of your iPad. Apple calls it the Sleep/Wake button.

So given this name, one would assume that pressing it would put the iPad to sleep and pressing it again would wake it up.

BUT NO!!!

According to Apple, pressing this button does not put the iPad to sleep, it locks it and pressing it again unlocks it! The same button is also used to turn the iPad off and then on again.

I mean c'mon! When you are tired and put your jammies on and go to bed, you don't go to lock, you go to sleep! And in the morning when the alarm clock goes off, you don't unlock, you wake up!

So why don't they just call it the Lock/Unlock button???

Won't Go Into Sleep Mode

Jul 7, 2010

After using an App made specifically for the iPad and then try to turn off/put my iPad to sleep, it does not react at all. If I then start an App which was designed for the iPhone, then pressing the button on the top of the iPad leads directly to the iPad switching to sleep mode.

This does not happen with all iPad apps. Any ideas?

I have tried everything, even inspected everything from the mic hole, headphone jack, speaker grill, dock connector, etc. no evidence of water damage, dust etc. my ipad wont awake from sleep, or turn on for that matter. I also put 4.2 on there, so do you think the 4.2 dev software beta bricked it?

IOS 4.2 Battery In Sleep Mode

Dec 9, 2010

I noticed the battery in my Touch was dropping overnight after upgrading to 4.0. I have been turning off the Wi-Fi when I am not using it and it has been holding a charge.I just upgraded both my wife's and my iPads to 4.2. We are both experiencing problems with battery drain while in sleep mode. I charged my iPad to 100% then let it sleep for four hours. When I powered it back on it was at 96%. Without using it, I checked again in two hours and it was at 94%. My wife's iPad is the same. I turned off the Wi-Fi and will check again in a couple of hours to see if it is still falling. It's obvious that something in the new iOS is continuing to draw a lot of power while in sleep mode. That would suck if I had to remember to turn off the Wi-Fi and 3G every time I stop using my iPad. Anyone else seeing the same problems with their iPad's and iPod Touch's?

4.2.1 Not Entering The Sleep Mode

Dec 5, 2010

I have both iPad and iPhone 4. I have upgraded both to iOS 4.2.1. For some reason, iPad will not enter the sleep mode after inactivity for some time. iPhone 4 will enter the sleep mode fine.

This difference is causing my iPad battery to be drained overnight if I don't manually set it to sleep mode.

Eat Powers While In Sleep Mode?

May 20, 2010

I picked up my iPad after 3 days of inaction and it was down to 55% battery. Odd, I thought, perhaps I beat it up at the weekend and the battery got low. Plugged it in and charged it up to 100%, hit the sleepy switch on the top.

24 hours later its at 80%. It's done nothing unless elves have been playing youtube vids on it whilst I'm at work, it's really sat in the same spot asleep waiting for me to find something fun to try.

What's it doing with all that battery power? I can leave my iPhone out 4 days and it's still charged and that has a battery the size of .. well the size of an iPhone.

Do all iPads eat power when asleep?

Ipad 2 Won't Go Into Sleep Mode

Nov 11, 2011

my ipad 2 won't go into sleep mode.I hope I'm using the right terminology here. By sleep mode I mean I can have my ipad cover open for several minutes and the screen won't go into a sleep mode or go blank even though it is not being used all.

I know before it used to go to sleep within a very short time - now it dosn't sleep at all.
Is there a setting for this somewhere - I for the life of me cannot find it.

Does Not Wake From Sleep Mode

Nov 29, 2010

I have some trouble with an iPad 3G with OS 4.2.

Every time I put it in sleep mode, or if the iPad autolocks and it sleeps for more than 60 seconds or so, I am unable to wake it up using the Sleep/Wakeup button. The only way I can wake it up is by doing a reboot (home+sleep).

This only happens when the iPad is not connected to a power supply, if it is connected everything works.

This makes me suspect that something goes awry when it goes into "deep sleep" to save power and dumps RAM to disk... or alternatively when it restores RAM from disk.
