Correct Form Of Video Format?

Aug 4, 2010

I just d/l a video in mp4 format. Using Get Info I see:

Dimensions: 640x352
Codecs: H.264, AAC
Duration: 56.27
Audio channels: 1
Total bit rate: 1796

I added it to my iTunes library, it plays fine with iTunes and Quicktime but iTunes tells me the video is not in the correct format. When I select Create iPad Version it creates a much smaller file that plays the audio but just a white screen for the video.

Update - tried using QT and Save As to change to .mov and got the same white screen.

How Do I Get The Correct Format Video?

Apr 11, 2010

I'm, new to Apple ( if you exclude my itouch, ipods, and a couple of disastrous outings with an iphone!) but....

How do I get the correct format video's onto my ipad? I know Apple uses mpeg4 - but some of the existing movies on my pc will sync and some wont- these are movies I have added to my itunes , and then tried to sync.

Also is there any app that will allow me to play my .mkv HD movies or even at a pinch my .avi ?

Transferring Video Files From My Windows PC To My Ipad - Video File Format ?

Jan 14, 2012

I've been having trouble transferring video files from my windows PC to my ipad. I know that itunes will not accept avi files or windows media files. Apple advised that mp4 was an acceptable format for itunes and ipad and I happened to have a couple of those files on my PC, which play through quicktime. For practice, I tried adding them to itunes. NO luck. I was able however able to get these files to my ipad by using dropbox. Now here is the kicker. They play fine on the ipad, but I cannot save them to "videos" it says there is no app to support this file. So right now they are sitting in my dropbox folder which is not good because space is limited. So...my question: What video file format will itunes or ipad like?? If I need to convert these files, what will work?

Won't Find Correct Video Encoding Settings To Play

Jun 5, 2010

Here's the settings that my dvd ripper (iskysoft) used to convert a home movie DVD to an "apple TV" format file

file type: .mp4
format: xvid
resolution: 512 x 384
frame rate: 24
bit rate 1500

This file plays fine on the apple tv and itunes, but not on my ipad. It will sync and transfer but when I try to play it on the ipad the video is all messed up.

I tried using the "convert to apple tv/ipad format" but itunes said it was already in the correct settings.

What specific setting do I need to use to convert this file so it will play on my ipad?

Information:
Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Good Space-saving Video Format

May 11, 2010

I have a 16GB iPad and I would like to watch HD movies. I have converted several of my movies to iPad fromat (and to save disk space I conveted them to have max 1024px in width). However, they are still very big- between 2,5 and even 4GB. I used h.264 video and AAC audio. Is there any other format that iPad supports and allows to compress videos to around 1,5GB and keeping good quality?

Video Conversion - Right File Format Without Growing In Size

Aug 21, 2010

Can anyone recommend a good guide for converting videos for use on the iPad?I've seen a couple on youtube, but most are geared for HD/DVD sized/quality videos. I've got a bunch of smaller .avi's that I've shot that balloon up in size if I follow any of the guides I've seen online (making a 512x384 video into 1280xwhatever monstrosity). I just need to convert those videos into the right file format without growing in size any. I tried doing it with MPEG Streamclip but a 170mb avi turned into a 200mb mp4 in the process.
