Converting Movies Resolution

May 17, 2010

I had some trouble with a converted Movie File, i converted a Movie to x264 mp4, 1240x720, as this is the resolution mostly said for the IPad.The movie itself had a lower resolution.Well converting worked, took 4 hours, but after this my PC went CPU 100% once i opend the folder with the mp4 in it My question is: Should i rather set resolution and anything to default/automatic instead of forcing the IPad resolution? And if yes will the IPad display the movie as a tiny Window or full screen?

Converting And Playing Avi Movies On The IPad 2?

Apr 2, 2012

I know there's been a lot of discussion on converting and playing avi movies on the iPad but I hope someone can explain this to me. My DSLR records movies in avi format and easily transfers to the iPad via the camera connection kit. Within the Imported album the avi movies play great on the iPad. However once transferred from the iPad (or camera) to the desktop the avi files will not transfer back to the iPad via iTunes.

Optimal Resolution For IPad Movies ?

Jul 3, 2011

I have a bunch of HD (1080) movies that I would like to put on my iPad. However, by default Handbrake and iTunes seem to downsize my glorious 1920x1080 video to around 1024x400 or 1024x500. I want to take up all the screen space possible by double tapping, and this means setting the resolution to the height of the screen rather than the length. In Handbrake, what is the best resolution to be encoding these videos?

Resolution For Watching Movies In Vertical Or Portrait Position

May 1, 2010

what would be an optimal resolution for viewing a video in the vertical position of the ipad? the movies i have converted so far are in a wide screen format and are pretty small in the vertical position with veryyyy large bars on the top and bottom. i know this is severely limiting the options available since movies are generally in a widescreen format which play great in the horizontal position.

High Resolution Photo / Unable To Keep The Resolution

When iTunes 'optimizes' my photos, it reduces their resolution to the iPad's screen size. I want it to keep them at their current resolution so I can zoom in and still see a decent amount of detail. Is this currently possible?

Using Handbrake For Converting?

May 11, 2010

I'm trying to recode a blue Ray rip that is in h.264 format. I have got this to work on a bunch of DVD rips but for some reason with the blue Ray I'm getting video that does not have sound then another 4 hours of sound without video. In other words the sound and video are there but they are not overlapping. The video plays fine in iTunes before trying to convert it to iPad format. Even happens when i try to encode it to apple tv. Any ideas?

Converting MKV With Subtitles

Sep 22, 2010

I watch anime with Japanese audio in the MKV format, which often has the subtitles embedded and played through vobsub.

Is there any way to convert the MVK for use on the iPad and having the subtitles hard encoded onto the video?

I know that many people use the program Handbreak, but it does not let you select the subtitle file when it is embedded in the MKV.

Subtitles really are the key, as I've already figured out how to choose the correct audio source (when more than one is present), but for the life of me I can't get the subtitles to hard-code over the video.

Vlc / Converting To Mp4 Format?

Sep 11, 2010

VLC are releasing their iPad app next week. But what does it mean?Does it mean we won't have to go through the laborious process of converting anything we want to watch on the iPad to mp4 format?Does it mean I can just drag and drop a .avi movie or TV show into iTunes, sync, and then use VLC on the iPad to play it?
Does it mean diddly squat?

Converting Docs To PDF?

Mar 24, 2012

This topic is doing my head in! I am a university student and I just bought the new iPad. I was planning to annotate my power point files only to find out that I can only annotate PDFs . So the problem is, our lecturers upload the power points on the day so I wont have the chance to convert the power point files to PDFs on my laptop.I have tried a few apps to do this, but they either don't work or they do a ****** job by combining a slide and a half of the powerpoint to one page of PDF. I heard that Keynote can convert office files to PDFs. Can someone confirm this is the case please? And can it do a good job with its conversion?? And does the size of the powerpoint matter? I think the bigger the file the more problematic it gets (or that is what I at least think of ).

Muxing With Avidemux Instead Of Converting?

May 9, 2010

I don't have an iPad yet (will get one on the 28th here in Germany) but I was wondering if anyone has tried muxing Xvid files to MP4 with Avidemux yet?
I know for a fact that these files work on an iPhone and knowing they will also work on an iPad would probably influence my preorder decision re. the version (32 or 64).

Muxing a file is incredibly fast compared to converting it via e.g. Handbrake (On my system muxing a 700mb video (1.5 hours) takes about 3 minutes or so with no visible loss in quality and audio in 128kb.) and if it works I might just mux my Xvid videos and go for the 64gb version.

Maybe someone wants to give it a try and post results?

Get Avidemux (free)
http://avidemux.berlios.de/download.html

2. Open source video.
Say "yes" to "Build VBR time map?" if it pops up.
Say "yes" to "Index is not up to date - Rebuild frame" if it pops up.
3. Set Audio to "AAC (Faac)".
4. Set Format to "MP4".
5. Save file with extension mp4.
