Colon And Semi Colon On-screen Keyboard

Apr 6, 2010

Is there a way to type a colon or semi colon using the iPad Onscreen Keyboard? If not this seems like a pretty serious oversight.

Use As A Semi Note Book?

Dec 6, 2010

I know that with an iPad you can use the BT wireless keyboard, which came with my iMac. Someone I work with uses his like that with the Pages app and loves it. But what I want to know is whether I can take my iPad to a game, flip it to landscape and pretty much have Pages about like you would on a MacBook. Can I create two documents open side-by-side? Does it work in landscape mode? Can I send my work via e-mail? We may be using a new submission system that's Web-based at the time, so the last point may not matter. But I'm still interested in such first-person experience.

Semi-dimming A New Feature?

Mar 12, 2011

I don't recall my iPad 1 dimming only slightly (about 1/2 way) if I didn't touch the screen for a minute or two and then completely shutting off another minute or two later...similarly to how my iMac does it. Was this a feature on iPad 1 as well or is it new?

Semi Low Quality Consumer Camera?

May 5, 2010

I am trying to import photos from my Kodak EasyShare M873 via the USB connector from the CCK. About a quarter of the way through the import, the iPad disconnects and states, "The attached accessory is using too much power". Is anyone else getting this. I suppose I could just remove the SD card from the camera everytime I want to import. But then what is the point of having the USB adaptor if the iPad can't handle connecting to a semi-low quality consumer camera?

Connection To A Semi Public Wifi

Sep 4, 2010

I was at an airport lounge and I had the username and the password. I'm used to accessing hotel wifi networks with my laptop where I would open up my browser and I would type in the username and the password into the hotel's wifi webpage. At the lounge, I went to settings and selected the wifi network, but when I opened up Safari a web page for that wifi network didn't come up.

Semi Break In Document Sharing Between Apps

Aug 15, 2010

time for a new thread on this issue of sharing documents between applications. This is starting to look like it is definately a permissions issue...and I'm starting to care less and less. I am able to place symbolic links in GoodReader and DocsToGo pointing to /var/mobile and any directories I place there are viewable by each application. However, when attempting to create a file with DocsToGo, nothing happens. If I then browse to /var/mobile/Media/DCIM, I can create/read/write till my hearts content. So, this started to make me real happy as I thought that this was the same folder that pops up when connecting to the PC to sync, but it's not. /var off the root is a symbolic link to /private/var, and from there, things start to confuse me a bit hierarchly and everything is owned by root/wheel, so that's about as far as I go there for now.

Bluetooth Keyboard/on Screen Keyboard Not Working

Aug 25, 2010

I purchased my Ipad a few hours ago from a local Apple store. One of the accessories I purchased was the aluminum bluetooth keyboard - the 2 battery model. I love the keyboard except when I don't want to use it (like when Im not home). Turning it off does not make the on screen key board appear; pressing the eject key (as the Apple support note said to do and I'm getting increasing frustrated! Must I actually unpair the keyboard in order to get it to stop being the only input device?

Power Forces The On Screen Keyboard Off-screen?

Jul 22, 2010

I picked up the bluetooth keyboard for my iPad and am very pleased at how well it works... My only issue is the power forces the on-screen keyboard off-screen...

When I put it into my bag I find at times the power button is pressed and it turns the keyboard back on... I'm looking for some type of a power switch cover...

On-screen Keyboard Review

Apr 7, 2010

After 3 days using my ipad, I've found I'm slowly getting better at using the on-screen keyboard. I almost exclusively use it in landscape mode, and as long as I position my arms and hands at a comfortable angle, I can type fairly quickly. I currently don't have a case that can prop it up at an angle(like the apple case) and think that would make it even easier to use. The main problem I see with typing it using apostrophes and numbers, because you have switch to the second screen. I wish Apple could fit at least the apostrophe onto the first keyboard screen somehow, since its used quite alot when one types. I think though, if I keep using the ipad, I will eventually get as good at typing on its on-screen keyboard as I am on a physical keyboard. It's not as horrible as some people make it out to be, and I think it just has a learning curve.

Use Both On Screen And HD Keyboard At Same Time?

Oct 8, 2010

Has anyone come up with a way to be able to switch back and forth between the on screen keyboard and a paired HID Bluetooth keyboard? In my case, my HID BT Keyboard is a barcode scanner which works great! It is the Serialio scanfob. We would like to use the iPad to create sales orders and some of the fields need to be text and some need to be the barcode info input from the scanner. I have already asked support, and no solutions there other then the eject option on the apple keyboard or turning off bluetooth in the settings.

Unable To Use On Screen Keyboard?

Nov 30, 2010

In a previous post, I was complaining about the difficulties I encountered while typing on the iPad's chunky on-screen keyboard. Meanwhile, I discovered a great tip about this, the touch-hold-slide feature, which allows me to go to the symbol page, select a symbol, and return to the letters page, all with one motion. This feature is documented in the "iPad User Guide" only for uppercase letters, but not for digits and symbols.

On Screen Keyboard Layout?

Oct 13, 2010

How hard would it be for Apple to program more usable on screen keyboard layouts? For example, I would like the option to have a full featured keyboard, albeit with smaller keys. Give me the digits on the first page, so I won't have to switch back and forth a million times. And no, I don't want to buy a wireless keyboard. I'm not cheap, but I bought the iPad so I can type in my couch. If I wanted to type on a keyboard while the iPad sits in a stand, I have a desktop and a laptop that do the trick. I can see how the on screen keyboard takes half the size of iPhone's screen, and there's nothing we can do about that. But why not have similar shaped keys on the iPad, they would take much less room and still be usable.

On Screen Keyboard Appear While Bluetooth Is On?

Nov 13, 2010

I've got an iPad with a bluetooth keyboard. When I'm sitting at my desk, I set my iPad on a stand and I type on the bluetooth keyboard. Sometimes I pick up my iPad and carry it with me when I am away from my desk, but when I try to type something I realize that the on-screen keyboard is hidden. Is there any way to make the on-screen keyboard reappear aside from walking back to my desk and pushing the eject button on the bluetooth keyboard or disabling bluetooth altogether? Disabling bluetooth is annoying because I have to re-enable it when I get back to my desk, and pressing the button is inconvenient because I have to remember to push it before I leavee my desk (I can't just grab the iPad and go).

On-screen Keyboard Is Phenomenal

Sep 6, 2010

After a few days of playing with it, I have to say I'm not that impressed with it. Sure, it's got a decent web browser, but for participating in forums I'm not that high on typing on it. The on-screen keyboard is phenomenal for an on-screen keyboard, however it's still not as nice as typing on tactile response laptop or desktop keyboard.

The App selection seems a bit thin, at least for native iPad apps. I had to buy a facebook app (Friendly) which seems pretty decent. I also purchased a Craigslist browser which also seems to work fairly well. Otherwise, when I browse the app store I don't see anything that I can't live without. The Netflix app is pretty decent and the fast forward/rewind operation is top notch.

Otherwise, I'm not exactly sure what to do with this thing. Between my wife and I we each have an laptops and an iPhone 4, a shared iPod touch, a desktop computer, an Apple AirPort Express for Airtunes, an iPod Classic, and now the iPad. Laptops have filled in our "courch surfing" needs, and the iPhone takes us wherever else the laptops won't go.
