Have tried a few apps including iFiles. Do any of them allow you to grab and manage all files from apps like Pages or Numbers at one time? Berokyo does not allow you to create folders.

Today I wanted to transfer some files from my iPad 2 to a Windows 7 laptop via iTunes. Both the iTunes and iPad software are up-to-date.I started iTunes on the laptop and plugged in the iPad; in the left column in iTunes, selected the iPad under devices; among the menu choices near the top of the screen, chose Apps. Toward the bottom of the iTunes window, an area appeared called "File Sharing," with a list of apps that "can transfer documents between your iPad and this computer." When I selected GoodReader, I saw all of the documents on the iPad that I expected to see. However, when I selected either Pages or Numbers, I didn't see any of several documents I'd created in each one.Is there anything I need to do within Pages or Numbers to "save" documents and make them visible to iTunes? When finished with each document I've just been returning to the Pages or Numbers document menu, but didn't think I had to do anything to save them per se.

iTunes will not sync Pages of Numbers files via Apps tab, File Sharing, add or drag. Searched threads here, one mentioned SDK beta2 may cause this but haven't installed it. Thought maybe give iWork.com a try. My Apple I.D. or password won't allow login. Same I.D. and pw to get here to post. Strange. Any ideas? Mac Pro 10.6.3, iPad not JB.

How do I get a permanent backup of my Keynote, Pages and Numbers files? I want to start deleting some off of my iPad to save space but am concerned that if I do so, they will also delete off of the cloud. I want to make sure I do this correctly. I would love to just send them to my dropbox, but the apps do not work with dropbox.

I use PDF Expert to read and edit on but their converter seems to get bad reviews.
I have some excel files in Dropbox and am thinking of purchasing Numbers (I already have Pages) but not sure how to download my Dropbox file so I can work on it in Pages or Numbers, if I buy it. When I download the file to the ipad, I get options to open in several apps but Pages is not one of them. I do not want to buy Numbers and find I cannot download files to the app to work on.

I would like the icons smaller, and to always appear at the bottom, without double clicking the home button or using gestures. Kind of like a start menu / task bar on PC.

So far in my iPad settings, I have the fetch data (push) to off and location services turned off as well. Is there a proper way of closing apps? I typically just use the home button to end the app.

The current available manual is the one for MAC, and has nothing to do do with the available possibilities for IPad's Numbers. When Apple wants to propose the IPad for professional use, this seems to be urgent.

View 2 RepliesI'm wondering if there's some way I can transfer files to my ipad2 and store them in typical directories so that these common files can be launched with various apps. I've seen a million "file manager" apps that allow klugey transfers from a PC by setting up a network drive, starting the file manager app, then dragging and dropping files into the ipad, but this solution has a number of flaws for my purposes (something similar can be done in itunes, but it's far more limited):
1. I have to initiate the whole thing from my PC. This wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to have the app actively running on the ipad too, which requires me to access both devices.
2. It still doesn't let me load the transferred files with any other apps.
3. They all have extremely limiting options as far as compatibility with file types.
What this leads to is a million file managers, each with an embedded web browser, pdf viewer, image viewer, and video player. So if I find that I like the PDF viewer of Goodreader (I do - it's excellent) but the picture viewer of readdledocs, then I have to have two distinct (and somewhat complicated) processes for transferring the different types of files over.
I'm guessing that what I'm looking for just doesn't exist, but it'd be nice to be able to actually have a universal file manager with directories. Then I could open any of my media apps and just load up any one of the compatible files.
Failing that, at the very least, I'd like a way to actually reach out to my PC and grab files to save in my various apps (like Goodreader). For instance, if I want to transfer a PDF file from my PC that has the files all shared on my network drive, and I don't want to leave my bed where I'm reading on my ipad. Possible? From what I can tell Goodreader and ReaddleDocs won't connect to network drives, and I have no FTP server or other similarly fancy file sharing technique.
Another scenario (same problem) I'm trying to address is if I'm at a friend or coworker's house and they have some files I'd like to get onto my Ipad for use/viewing (and they're too large to email). I also don't want to have to guide them through a 10 min process of setting up a network drive on their computer and transferring that way. I'd love to be able to just plug in and have them drag and drop the files or even to just grab them from a network shared directory.
Note: I'm not averse to jailbreaking if this is what it would take (when one is available for ipad2)
