4.02 Requiring Backup Ability To Sync

Nov 22, 2010

I have left my ipad plugged into my macbook for over 8 hours and have never gotten beyond 1/3 done with a backup. I just deleted the Zinio app based on some other feedback I saw and am hoping that helps. The big issue is for the upgrade to take place - It seems to want to run a backup after downloading the software and prepping to install. It then disconnects and says the backup is not working really?? Unreal I hope deletion of the Zinio app helps speed it up....any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Bout ready to turn this thing into a frisbee

After Upgrade 3.2.2 - Requiring A Restore?

Aug 14, 2010

I had a problem with the 3.2.2 upgrade which wound up requiring a restore. I ended up with missing books and music.

I found two iPad backup file folders on my computer. Should only be one? I am concerned that future backup/restore operations may be messed up.

I am considering:

1) uninstalling iTunes and all it's files from my computer, reinstalling, and doing a new backup.

OR

2) Move the backup files to another folder and do a new backup. If it creates a new file, erase the old files.

IPad 3 :: DTG App Requiring Update?

Mar 19, 2012

Since transitioning to The New IPad, my word documents in DTG only fill the left half of the display. I'm guessing this is due to the new, higher resolution displays. Any suggestions, or is this due to the DTG app requiring an update?

Connecting To A Wi-Fi Network Requiring Proxies.

Nov 11, 2010

I'm trying to connect my iPad to the local network at university. It requires the user to input the proxy address and port number manually. My iPad is able to connect to the network but once it does it automatically opens the Apple page (not using safari. It just automatically pops up). I use the home button to try andshift to Safari but the connection is automatically lost.So in the end the only thing I'm able to access using the network is the apple site.

IPad - Use The GPS Without Requiring A Data Connection

Mar 7, 2012

I have a GPS App on my iPhone that I use often. However, the screen is small so I rely entirely on the app speaking to me through my bluetooth headset and keep the phone in my pocket. My GPS App of preference has all the maps locally, so having a 3G connection is no issue. The App is also a universal iPhone & iPad App.

If I get the LTE version of the iPad I'd be able to use the GPS without requiring a data connection - or a SIM card - correct? While my usage for a GPS extends beyond that of navigation, it would be the primary use. I'd like geo-located photos but that's no biggie.

IPad 3 :: Video App Freezes Requiring Hard Reset

Jun 30, 2014

My 3rd gen iPad will lock up once every 30 minutes or so while playing video from the videos app. This happens when watching 1.3gb videos, with over 5gb of free space. URL....

All the info I can find on the subject are people having problems with their first gen iPad and it being a hardware issue. The protocal was to take the iPad back to Apple and have it replaced. Somehow I doubt Apple will want to replace my 3 year old iPad. I'm hoping the community has stumbled upon a software solution? My iPad is perfectly in every other way, even plays games like Infinity Blade without issue.

How To Sync Without Doing A Backup?

Jul 27, 2010

So far I've got about 4 gig of data on my iPad. The backup takes more than 2 hours to do. I hate doing it, because it takes too long. I understand, it takes that long to transfer 4 gigs to my hard drive.BUT-- Isn't it possible to do a Sync without doing a Backup?Do I have to do the backup every time?I've looked and looked. I see now way to avoid this.Maybe you've found the answer? Information:Windows, iPod, iPad Windows XP

Non-sync Backup

Jun 5, 2010

Hi, ok maybe a stupid question, but here goes. I never use my computer anymore. I do fine with my iPad and my iTouch. Not only that but I don't even want to use my computer! It's slow, etc. Anyway I bought a subscription to Mobile Me thinking I could use that as a backup alternate to syncing on my computer but now I find that Mobile Me doesn' really act like a backup, won't store some things like Pages documents unless I email them to myself, etc.

So my question is , what alternative, if any, is there to my old, clunky computer with iTunes on it can I use as a type of cloud or other backup location for my iPad, or any hardware available? I hate using my computer anymore. Thanks

Sync Backup Too Slow

Apr 15, 2010

I'm on my second unit now. I have about 15 gigs of data on mine. I started the backup last night at 9:30 PM, it's now 5:15 AM and the backup is less than 50% complete. I'll try it on a different machine tonight (this one is Vista Ultimate 64-bit), but I had the same problem with my original iPad on three different boxes (two PC, one Mac). I've got about 2.5 gigs of music, 9 gigs of comic books in ComicZeal, and 3 gigs in Apps (mostly PDFs for PDFReader HD).

How To Make And Do Sync/backup?

Nov 28, 2010

I have had the iPad for a few months now. Today I read that ios 4.2 was out, so attempted to connect it to my Mac for the first time to carry out the upgrade (until now I've been content to download Apps through the Apps store and all has been fine)Anyway to cut a long story short after connecting to iTunes the Apps have transferred over to my library fine, but on attempting the upgrade it just sits at Backing up.... for hours with the status bar about 5% complete and never moving.any ideas welcome

Sync Or Backup Is Slow?

Apr 10, 2010

I'm not sure if the sync is slow or if the backup is slow. Ipad says "Sync in Progress", but Itunes says "Backing up iPad.

Apps on the iPad include a free calculator, Amazon.com's Kindle for Iphone/iPad, Barnes and Noble ereader for Iphone, Ibooks ap, and the aps that came preloaded with the iPad.

SYNC appeared to take only a few seconds, but BACKUP has been going for three hours, and the backup status bar at the top of iTunes is creeping along. Right now it indicates the backup is about 1/3 complete.

Should sync/backup take this long for the iPad? If not, what can be done to correct it?

It's Backup & Sync Diagram

May 9, 2012

As a iPad owner, to understand the ins & outs of backup & sync, I created a diagram, using a fixed-width font, with Textedit. It can't be posted here of course, it gets messed up without a fixed-width font. Hopefully I've attached a screen-capture png of most of it. I'd be very glad to hear of any errors & omissions!

Restore From Backup Or Sync?

Oct 17, 2011

What's the difference between syncing and restore from backup? i upgraded to iOS5 but i want to restore all the apps(games) and their respective settings, but when i click on 'Restore from Backup' iTunes says that it will only restore "contacts, calendars and notes", it doesn't say anything about restoring apps and their settings. And when i click on 'Sync Apps' iTunes says that it will delete all apps and stuff from the iPad 2 and i don't know if syncing restores all the apps with their respective settings.

Sync To Iphone Backup?

Jun 10, 2011

My question is should I sync it to my iPhone backup so it loads with all my iPhone stuff and then take of any stuff I don't want on it. Or from scratch and select stuff for it, by doing that it won't mess up my iPhone apps will it ? Will iTunes control two different selections of apps for the different devices. I have never had two devices on iTunes before.

How To Make A Fast Backup/Sync?

Dec 6, 2010

I've seen a number of posts here about extremely slow backup/sync speeds and may have stumbled across the answer in one of them. I'm posting this in hopes of saving people with similar issues time when searching (and because I can't bring myself to post a "this worked for me" response to all of the threads I found on the issue). My iPad seemed to be taking forever to backup and sync. It would eventually finish, but it was a go make myself a pot of coffee while it updates the 2 podcasts that are new kind of thing. Really irritating.
I didn't realize that I had been using the sync cable that came with my 1st Gen iPhone. It's universal, right?Apparently, not. When I swapped out the old cable with the new one, it flew through the sync. How to tell the difference (at least on mine): The USB connector on the old one has sharp corners. The corners on the new one are rounded. That's the only difference I can see, but it made all the difference in the world.

Difference Between Backup Sync And Transfer?

Nov 26, 2010

I've read the iPad book and a few Apple tech notes on this but am still not 100% clear on the differences. It seems we can sync, backup and transfer our iPad data to our computers.Frankly, I don't understand why there isn't just one process that "backs up" your iPad to your computer so there is a mirror copy of data in case you need to restore your iPad, existing or new one if lost. Can some one summarize the difference between the 3 and a strategy to have ALL your iPad info on your computer? I use MobileMe BTW so my contacts and calendar are always synced using Push.
