Lack Of A Unified File System Across Apps

Mar 26, 2012

I had to first one for a year and then skipped the second one waiting for the third one. But after 2 years, its really annoying to me that Apple will not create a unified file system where apps can share data across one another.I had to upload pictures to goodreader so I can zip it and then upload it to dropbox. The upload didn't work for some reason, so I went to the dropbox app, but it doesn't detect nor do I know a way to get the zip file generated in Goodreader to port over to the dropbox app. It's things like this that makes me wish apple created a unified downloads or dummy folder for all apps to use. They are gimping it on purpose to only keep their mobile laptop line more relevant.

Apps :: Best Software For Wifi File Transfer

Jun 6, 2011

I have tried loads of apps for transferring files from my computer to my iPad using wifi with varying success in terms of reliable transfer and speed.

What do you use, is it reliable, how fast is it, can you queue files, can you then open files easily in other apps?

If you use disk aid an a cable how fast/reliable is that (not wifi I know) - do you need to install iTunes anyway for the USB connection to work?

Transfer File From Desktop Via WiFi File Times Out And Loose Connection

Apr 22, 2010

I have the 32gb WiFi iPad and having an issue with my WiFi and GoodReader and I'm not sure if this an isolated issue or related to the WiFi issues that have been reported in the media. What happens is when in GoodReader and I am trying to transfer a file from my desktop to GoodReader via WiFi the file times out and I loose my WiFi connection. I then have to go into my settings and reconnect to my network. The strange thing is when using GoodReader on my iPhone I do not have this issue. I am able to transfer said files to that device.

IPad :: Opening Document In Pages Format Results In Zip File

Sep 11, 2014

Trying to print a Pages document from my iPad to a non-Airprint printer. Want use HP's ePrint app. Bring up "open in another app" -- and then I am asked to chose a format. Chose Pages. Then asked for an app. Chose ePrint. ePrint locates my non-Airprint printer, but cannot print. Reason: the Pages document has tuned into a zip file (xxxxxx.pages.zip). Why? If I chose Word format, the Pages document becomes a docx file, and it CAN be printed by ePrint. I also get a zip file if I try to use Dropbox.

Solving Having No File System

Apr 6, 2010

The one thing that the iPad really needs is a real file system! Good Reader seems to be one solution for storing files, however, there are some real flaws.1. File management is poor, but at least there is something! 2. Opening a PPT converts it into PDF first and does a pretty poor job. Excel and Word documents seem to be better, but I do too much in PPT to see this as a useful soluiton I then purchased keynote. This opens the PPTs just fine. However, there is no file system, no folders, no search (that I can find).
There is no integration between the files stored in Good Reader and Keynote! So you can not leverage the basic file system in one app to make up for the lack of one in another.I hope Apple is going to address this on Thursday!
