Chipset Set Fail Network Connection?

Jul 24, 2012

So there I was checking the PGA golf scores and throwing down the next word against my buddy on wwf on my "new" iPad (3) using the 3G network and all of a sudden the signal dropped off and I lost my data connection. I waited and the corner bar said "searching..." and I waited and waited. Then I closed all my apps and waited a bit more. still searching... So I turn the iPad off and reboot. Hmm still in searching mode. So I go and turn on my hotspot on my iPhone and connect that way and with in 2 minutes the iPad screen dims then goes dark and the iPad reboots itself?!?! I felt the lower left corner of the iPad near the dock connector and it was much warmer than the rest of the back of the iPad. I turned the unit off and when I brought it to work I did some hard reboots and ejected the sim card and the iPad still said "searching..." we measured the iPad back with one of our laser thermal guns and the hot corner was in fact 9f higher than any other corner at intial start up. All other corners were around 79f. Called apple support and we ran some tests and I'm off to the Apple store to get a new iPad.

Why Did It Fail To Start?

Nov 16, 2010

Just tried to start ipad with no response at all. Tried to restart with various combinations of power switch and menu button. Eventually had to reconnect to laptop, start itunes (which initially did not recognize the ipad) and after holding restart button down for about 15 seconds got the apple logo. itunes then recognized the ipad but I have had to do a complete restore of ipad system and then backup of all apps. The lesson: make sure you're well backed up!!!. The question: why did it fail to start??? There are now other posts with similar problems. Hope this of interest / help. Would be interesting to get Apple's viewpoint.

IOS Updates Always Fail On One Mac - Succeed On Another

Nov 4, 2010

unfortunately there is no general iOS subforum, so I post it here in the iPad forum in hope that someone has an idea.Whenever I am trying to update one of my iDevices from my Mac Pro (10.6.4 and iTunes 9 or 10, both have the same problem) the update runs half way through and then gets stuck on the apple logo, progress bar at about half way through. This is reproducable with any iDevice (tried iPhone 4, iPhone 3G and iPad). If I plug the same devices into my Macbook Pro, the update (or then: restore) works without any glitches. So it must be something with my Mac Pro, but I have no idea what might cause this.

IPad 2 Screen Fail

Apr 9, 2011

11.5 hours after buying my 16gb ipad 2, the screen refuses to turn on. I Charged the device to 100% and then played some games and facetimed (about 84% battery left). I left the device down for about 30 minutes and then tried to turn it on and nothing! Screen button, lock button, nothing worked! I connected it to the power adapter but it still did not respond.

See YouTube here for my problem video: [URL]

The only thing I think it could be is a drained battery because of open apps, but I wouldn't have thought they could drain the battery so fast.

3G Fail - Data Eventually Died

Oct 28, 2010

I have an iPad 3G, and activated a domestic data plan in the US, which worked fine, I rarely used it.I traveled to Italy five days ago, and the night before leaving I set up an international data plan (naively, I went for the smallest one, thinking wi-fi would be plentiful in Umbria and Tuscany -- WRONG). The data plan worked normally in Italy, in small hill towns in Umbria, with one exception. The "view account" button never worked, and always returned the message "The connection to the server was lost, please try again later." Everything else loaded normally, and I wasn't worried because I still thought I'd be using wi-fi at some point. So the data plan eventually died, and I still can't access the "view account", which means that I can't buy another data plan. I have called AT&T from here twice, and they can't help, they completely wash their hands of the iPad and say to call Apple (the first operator I talked to said that they didn't offer international data plans for the iPad)! They also say that they can't help me buy a new international data plan, they say I have to do that from the iPad.

ISad Will Fail - Least Innovative Device

Jan 29, 2010

The iSad is probably the least innovative device to come from Apple in its history. The Cube injected a revolutionary compression of hardware components and functionality. Steve's presentation was an absurd highlight of the units complete failure to deliver. The goal was set to out perform a cellphone and or a laptop. Steve then carefully sat in his comfy leather chair and bored the audience to death. Hails from the crowd could only be liken to the town drunks visiting a comedy club after a hefty regiment of the snake that bit them. For nearly an hour the education was laboriously repeated; "where you used to use your mouse, you now use your finger." We were all done with the demo five minutes in. We all sat patiently waiting for the hero we know and love to show us something amazing, and with each reveal we recalled the days of old when the Macintosh was demonstrated to have a word processor. Sadly, the iSad has no word processor built in. One cannot complete tasks that involve true business needs. The laptop remains the supreme solutions for true comfort and functionality.

Screen Fail - Substantial Pixel

Dec 6, 2010

I turned on my iPad 3G this morning and the screen has some substantial pixel bleeding on the left edge. Also there is a strip from one side of the screen to the other that is discolored. It is your basic LCD screen fail, but I wouldn't expect to see something like this go wrong in a product that is only five months old. It was working fine on Sunday and it has just been sitting in a bag overnight. Everything seems to be working, just there is now a 1 inch wide and six inch long strip on the left side that is completely smeared and unreadable. Touch access still works through smear.

AirPort Express Fail - AirTunes

Nov 30, 2010

I've practically given up on this, as it has been incredibly frustrating.I originally purchased an Airport Express for AirTunes and Airfoil usage. I had the AE connected to my stereo amp, and iTunes on my uMacbook would play back music to the amp perfectly. However with this existing setup, and the newly released iOS4.2 for iPad I am having utterly no luck with Airplay. It's been frustrating owning an AE as it is a troublesome device at best, especially since I have to keep resetting the thing just so the Airport Utility app can 'see it'.My iPad has the Airplay icon, the AE is setup for Airtunes with no password. iTunes on my uMacbook can see the AE and stream music to it. However the iPad just doesn't happen.

One time the screen turned blank immediately and safari was existed automatically. Another time the application existed by itself when I tried to type an address. It is as if the application crashed.

First Photo Transfer From IPad 3G To PC A FAIL

Jun 14, 2012

I just moved for the first time to my new iPad 48 .jpg pictures from my camera memory chip. That went fine. Next I hooked up the transfer cable to the PC (Windows 7, 64-bit) and transferred the 48 pictures from the iPad to My Pictures on the PC. I went through the options and elected not to remove the pictures from the iPad at the same time I transfer them. This should have saved my butt...but read on. A first mistake was not selecting any pictures to view after transferring them to My Pictures on the PC. After all, I could see their thumbnails okay. I knew I wanted to edit some and didn't want them mixed with other pictures so I moved all of the trip pictures from My Pictures to a Downloads folder to look at them later. In a regular folder like this the thumbnails don't display. If they had I would have stopped right in my tracks. I then performed a second mistake and of possible important note I had not disconnected the transfer cable yet. I don't think that should have mattered since the pictures were in a different folder now on the PC. In the iPad I spent a few minutes figuring out how to delete all the pictures there. That worked..They are all deleted. I then removed the cable--all done.

Finally I go back to the Download folder to look at the pictures and to my horror discovered none of them would open up fully. 99% of every picture was grayed out incomplete. You could see a few lines of picture color at the very top of a frame.I also noticed too (you can call this a third mistake) that all the pictures listed in the folder in Windows Explorer were 127 KB. [Heart sinking FAST!] I moved all the pictures back to My Pictures and now 1/4 of the 48 thumbnails are grayed out to this 99% and the others looked okay but when I view _any_ of them they are grayed out 99% regardless of the thumbnail and they are all sized at 127 KB.

I've got a bad feeling there aren't any miracles to pull off here but I've got to give it a try. Obviously there's a way this should have worked right and I need to discover it exactly before I will trust the iPad holding any photos. After some editing and arranging I was planning to copy (not move) pictures I wanted to show others back to the iPad and I haven't figured yet how to do that. I think I have to install iTunes on the PC and use the transfer cable again? Is it ever so possible that if I moved all these pictures back they would be restored to their originals? [ROTFL--that would be too funny.]

Apps Not Synced / Fail To Launch?

May 5, 2012

Have apps that had been installed by a friend (=not on our account) directly onto our iPad. Apps had not been sync'd to iTunes yet. Now they fail to launch : just give an on-and-off blink then back to the homescreen. First tried to get the apps onto iTunes via the "File / Transfer apps from iPad to computer" in iTunes - this failed so could not put the troublemakers into iTunes. Then tried to get the apps to work again. Solutions I found regarding "apps that fail to launch" included taking them off the iPad then putting them on again via iTunes - this doesn't work since I fail to get them into iTunes in the first place. Seem to be turning around in circles.
