View 1 RepliesI am thinking of getting an I Pad for my 10th grade daughter. Are text books available from I books. I have had no luck accessing their database
View 1 RepliesPlease tell me how I can get hand to iPad user guide in iBooks application? Can I download it?
View 3 RepliesIf you followed the news about the iPad, then you know about the iBooks app and store. You may also know that by supporting the EPUB format for books, Apple has given all iBooks users access to not only the tens of thousands of commercial ebooks sold with Fairplay DRM, but also to any DRM-free ebook in the EPUB format. We have already heard about the 30,000+ Gutenberg books that will be included within the iBookstore. What I haven't seen mentioned all that much is the over a million public domain books Google has available in EPUB (link).
View 5 RepliesThe promise of eBooks is twofold. An enormous library of books to choose from.and prices a bit cheaper than their physical equivalents. The UK iBooks store has gone online, but so far there is a double fail at work.
I just searched for some writers. No Ray Bradbury or Robert Silverberg (looking to re-read stuff I read ages ago)How about something more modern? No Douglas Coupland, only one Iain Banks.Let's try William Gibson. Finally some books I know. This lack of content might be due to the newness of the store. Perhaps more publishers will appear soon.
But the book publishing rights in the UK are held by different publishers, and my guess is that they are going to be slower to get their catalogues online. Ebooks are not that new, and the UK publishing industry seems to be very slow off the mark.
They just about manage to release electronic versions of best-sellers but failing to go through their back catalogs.Amazon has a bigger single global store. And not different stores in each territory. It treats publishing as if the whole world was the USA. Even so, British writers like Iain Banks are far better represented in the Kindle store.
So what about price?William Gibson's Pattern Recognition is 6.99 (UKP) in the iBook store. The same title in the Kindle store is $7.50 (USD) which is 5.22.That's a big difference.
I am guessing that most people will not be wanting to have an electronic library split between incompatible apps.So anyone interested in reading on the iPad will be making their mind up soon about which service to use.Apart from the cuter presentation of the iBook app, I don't see why any reader would be drawn to the iBooks store at this time.
I'm wondering if there are currently any manga or comic books available through the ibook store.
View 2 RepliesI downloaded the free 'Life on Earth' text book and found it almost unusable. It takes several seconds to load in pages, and crashes constantly. Are Apple treating the iPad 1 as end of life and now developing their apps for only the iPad 2 and beyond?
View 16 RepliesOr some reason I cannot open books in iBooks.
View 9 RepliesHow can I use the iBooks with my iPad3 to read books aloud? Please share details on the same
View 3 RepliesI am just wondering if there is anyway that books that I have brought in physical form (hardback or paperback) can be in anyway put onto iBooks without having to purchase them again... I.e. type in an isbn number somewhere???
View 2 RepliesWhy does my ipad2 ibooks only have free books listed and not books to purchase or browse?

Had to do a restore on my iPad2 and the books in my iBooks library disappeared. I figured no problem, just download them again. But when I try to dl from Smashwords I can't. They keep trying to open in my vault app.
View 1 RepliesAll of my other nook book covers (listings, etc) are viewable in my ibooks library, with the exception of a few I just purchased. I've resynched, shut down the ibooks app, etc.
It's really great this forum is here for those of us coming from the PC age.
I have iPad 2 and iBooks installed through iTunes. I put operation manuals in iBooks, and a couple of novels I'm trying to read, and when I get back to refer to them the icons are visible for a moment, then disappear.
Is there some kind of timer, or limit on how long a book can live in iBooks... or a PDF file?

iPad 2, iOS 4.3.3
Yesterday, I have found that all the books are missing from the iBooks library in my iPad 2. Is there any way available to retrieve all of them?
View 2 RepliesI have ibooks, but itunes says I do not. Books that I put onto the ipad, through itunes are not viewable in ibooks.
On itunes it says 'Download the ibooks app from the itunes app store.' My ipad is ios 6. I do not want to upgrade to ios 7, so if I delete the app then I know that I will have the problem that I have with my other ipad: I can't download ibooks, unless i upgrade to ios 7.1.1.
So how would I view these books?
Why dont the Pdf's come over from iBooks on the iMac to the iPad4?
View 1 RepliesThe iTunes Store is cheaper and you can enjoy immediate purchase! But I still buy books. I got about 200 books. For those here who read a lot of books, would you even consider leaving the physical books to only read ebooks on the iPad?
I could see so many advantages in ebooks (called iBooks) on the iPad:
- Immediate purchase,
- Cheaper price,
- Being able to have all my books when I travel,
- Not having to transport heavy boxes of books when I move in a new house,
- The instant dictionnary,
- Searching content,
- Bookmars in color!
The biggest complain is, of course, that reading on a screen is not that good compared to reading a real book. And reading outside (at the beach and/or in a sunny environment) should be far better with an actual book.
I've downloaded the iBooks app and I have some epub files that I got from outside of iTunes. How do I get them onto iTunes and into iBooks?
I love the iBooks apps above all the others and would love to get my extensive collection of PDF books to iBooks. Anyway to do it?
